Joel Kinnaman leads the ensemble as CIA analyst John Nixon, with Waleed Zuaiter playing Saddam Hussein. The supporting cast includes Lena Góra, Rebecca Night, Tom Berenger, Christopher McDonald and Dar Salim. Salim plays Captain Samir, who hunts through the streets of Baghdad door to door.
The material has real world roots. The series is based on the memoir ‘Debriefing the President’ by John Nixon, and it follows the first CIA officer to interrogate Saddam Hussein after his arrest. Production traveled to Egypt and locations around Cairo to recreate both Iraq and Washington.
Critics have been split, though the sample is small. On Rotten Tomatoes the first season holds an 83% approval rating from six reviews, while Metacritic gives it a mixed score of 53 out of 100 from six critics. The show is also intended for adult viewers, given its war setting, violence and mature themes.
