‘Spider Noir’ Star Nicolas Cage Looks Unrecognizable Next to His 31-Years-Younger Wife at Star-Studded Event

Nicolas Cage has built a career on transformation, disappearing into roles so completely that audiences sometimes forget what the actor actually looks like underneath the makeup and prosthetics. That same shape-shifting quality showed up off screen this weekend, when the 62-year-old star stepped out looking notably different at one of the buzziest Los Angeles events of the year.

Cage attended the opening night celebration for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the George Lucas-founded institution that has been years in the making, alongside his wife Riko Shibata. The two arrived together for what quickly became one of the most talked-about appearances of the night, thanks in large part to Cage’s dramatically altered look.

Photos from the event show Cage sporting tousled silver-grey hair and a full beard, paired with oversized black sunglasses that gave him an almost unrecognizable appearance compared to his usual red carpet presentation. He rounded out the look with a midnight blue dinner jacket featuring a subtle circular pattern and shawl lapels, an open-necked white shirt, black trousers, and polished black loafers.

Shibata, 31, complemented her husband’s dark tailoring in an ivory ensemble consisting of a high-necked blouse, wide-legged trousers, and a long coat with sheer sleeves and tied cuffs. She wore her straight black hair down past her shoulders with a full fringe, finishing the look with a small black handbag featuring a gold chain strap. The couple held hands for photographers throughout the event, a small but telling detail given how rarely Cage makes public appearances with his wife.

The 31-year age gap between the two has followed their relationship since it first became public, though the couple has never shied away from discussing it openly. Cage and Shibata were introduced by mutual friends while he was filming ‘Prisoners of the Ghostland’ in Japan, with Cage recalling that learning she owned flying squirrels sealed the deal for him, joking that he thought to himself, “That’s it. This, this could work out.”

The two married in an intimate ceremony at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas on February 16, 2021, blending Catholic and Shinto traditions in a service that also honored the birthday of Cage’s late father. They welcomed their daughter, August Francesca Coppola Cage, in 2022, with her name paying tribute to Cage’s father, August Coppola.

This marks Cage’s fifth marriage, and he has spoken candidly in the past about feeling like he finally found lasting happiness with Shibata. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Cage said simply, “I’m really happily married,” adding that he believes he “got it right this time” after his previous relationships.

The Lucas Museum opening drew a packed guest list of major names from across Hollywood, and Cage’s noticeably different appearance alongside his young wife quickly became one of the standout moments fans and outlets latched onto from the night’s photos. Whether the new grey hair and beard combination sticks around for his next role or was simply a one-night look remains to be seen, but it certainly gave longtime fans plenty to talk about.
