‘Ballerina’ Star Ana de Armas Turns Up the Heat at the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Formula 1 has become something of a magnet for A-list celebrities in recent years, and this week’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was no exception. Ana de Armas was spotted enjoying the race from a trackside suite, taking in the action alongside the usual mix of drivers, team principals, and fellow famous faces that the sport has increasingly attracted on race weekends.

The appearance comes at a moment when de Armas has quietly built one of the more stacked upcoming slates in Hollywood, spanning multiple genres, formats, and high-profile collaborators. Between feature films and television projects currently in various stages of production, the Cuban-born actress shows no signs of slowing down after a run that already includes ‘Ballerina’ and ‘Eden.’

On the film side, de Armas is set to star opposite Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro in ‘Reenactment,’ a thriller directed by Grant Singer that is currently in post-production. Plot details remain closely guarded, but the project marks Singer’s follow-up to his 2023 Netflix hit ‘Reptile,’ and the pairing of de Armas with Diaz, who is also gearing up for ‘Shrek 5,’ has already generated plenty of buzz.

She’s also attached to ‘Deeper,’ a sci-fi horror film from director Doug Liman that reunites her with Tom Cruise. Written by Christopher McQuarrie and the late Max Landis, the film follows a disgraced former astronaut who takes a new job piloting a one-man submarine into the deepest, darkest trench on Earth, livestreaming the descent without expecting much beyond water pressure and silence. A third project, ‘Sweat,’ will see de Armas play a fitness influencer whose life spirals after an encounter with a social media idol goes wrong, forcing her into a dangerous arrangement with an obsessive fan. Director J Blakeson is attached, though the thriller remains in its pre-production stage.

Beyond film, de Armas has two significant television projects in development, both for Apple TV+. The first is ‘Bananas,’ a drama directed by David O. Russell and co-starring Oscar Isaac, created by Carolina Paiz. Its title is reportedly a reference to “banana republics,” the term historically used to describe politically and economically unstable nations, particularly in Central America, though the full plot has not yet been revealed.

The second is ‘Safe Houses,’ an eight-episode drama series co-starring Jennifer Connelly, based on Dan Fesperman’s novel of the same name and helmed by showrunner Gideon Raff. The series is reportedly set in the aftermath of a major geopolitical event, giving de Armas another opportunity to headline a prestige limited series following her growing presence in television alongside her film work.

Taken together, this slate reflects just how deliberately de Armas has diversified her output in recent years, moving fluidly between blockbuster action, character-driven drama, and genre thrillers. Her recent history speaks to that range as well: she earned a historic Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in ‘Blonde,’ becoming the first Cuban actress nominated in the category, while also carving out a place in the action space with her breakout turn as Paloma in ‘No Time to Die’ and her more recent headlining role in the ‘John Wick’ spinoff ‘Ballerina.’

With ‘Reenactment’ in post-production, ‘Deeper’ and ‘Sweat’ both moving through development, and two separate Apple TV+ series on the horizon, de Armas appears positioned for an especially busy stretch heading into 2026 and 2027. Whether she is settling into a trackside suite at a Grand Prix or headlining an ensemble alongside names like Cruise, Diaz, and del Toro, her calendar over the next couple of years is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious in her career so far.
