Anderson’s shift away from elaborate makeup wasn’t a passing trend when it first began. Speaking with Elle back in 2023, she explained that going bare-faced felt “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too,” adding that seeing so many people embracing bold, Instagram-ready looks made her want to do the opposite. “It’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite,” she said in comments reported by ABC News, noting candidly that “we all start looking a little funny when we get older.”

In a 2024 interview with Allure, Anderson addressed that perception directly, insisting her approach to beauty has never been about making a point. “It wasn’t to make a political statement, I just wanted to have my little weird face sticking out of the top of those great clothes,” she said, according to comments reported by Yahoo. “I don’t think you should give me the credit of it being a stunt because that’s not how I think.
