Johnny Depp’s Comeback Thriller ‘Day Drinker’ Just Got Its First Teaser, and the Cast Is Stacked

Webb, known for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘500 Days of Summer,’ takes on ‘Day Drinker’ following his high-profile misstep directing Disney’s live-action ‘Snow White.’ Speaking about the project when production first began, Webb expressed genuine enthusiasm for the shoot. “I’m excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast. We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell. This is gonna be fun,” Webb said in comments shared with Variety.

The film’s production pedigree runs deep behind the camera as well. It’s produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, the team behind the ‘John Wick’ franchise, alongside Adam Kolbrenner, known for producing ‘Free Guy’ and ‘The Tomorrow War,’ and screenwriter Zach Dean. Principal photography took place in Spain, with a supporting cast that includes Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle rounding out the ensemble.

For Depp, ‘Day Drinker’ represents his most high-profile mainstream studio project since the very public controversies surrounding his divorce and subsequent legal battles with Amber Heard, which led to Disney and Warner Bros. severing their working relationships with him on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchises. Whether audiences view the film as a genuine return to form or simply another chapter in an ongoing narrative remains to be seen, but the level of talent surrounding him, both in front of and behind the camera, suggests Lionsgate is betting seriously on his box office draw.
