‘American Horror Story’ Season 13 Release Date, Time, Plot, Cast, Trailer and Where to Watch the Crossover Nightmare Fans Have Waited Years For
Tonight is the night. FX set the premiere for Sept. 24, after the season was first indicated to arrive around Halloween 2026. For a franchise that has spent years teasing a big reunion, the wait is nearly over.
‘American Horror Story’ has always thrived on reinvention, but this time it is turning to its own past. The trailers pull characters from ‘Murder House’, ‘Coven’, ‘Freak Show’, ‘Apocalypse’, ‘Cult’, ‘Hotel’ and ‘1984’ into a single season. Here is everything you need to know before the lights go out.
American Horror Story Release Date and Episode Schedule
The season debuts on Thursday, September 24, with 13 half hour episodes. That short runtime matters, because it means each chapter should move quickly. Nobody is likely to be twiddling their thumbs through a slow middle stretch.
The rollout is front loaded. Premiere week and week two each feature three episodes, and after that two episodes arrive every Thursday. The 13th and final episode is set for Oct. 29.
The production wrapped just before the marketing machine kicked into high gear. Filming began on April 6, 2026, and concluded on July 28, 2026. That is a fairly tight turnaround for a season this crowded.
American Horror Story Release Time and Where to Watch
If you plan to watch live, mark your calendar for the evening. The premiere airs at 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu. That puts the opener squarely in prime time for most viewers in North America.
Cord cutters have a straightforward option. TV Insider lists the premiere on FX at 9/8c, with episodes landing on Hulu the next day. Anyone without cable can simply wait for the streaming drop.
Since the first two weeks bring three episodes at a time, the season starts with a proper binge window. Fans who like to marathon their horror will have plenty to chew on before the twice weekly pace of episodes settles in.
American Horror Story Season Preview and the Returning Cast
The headline is Jessica Lange. Her casting came as a real surprise, since she had said in a February 2025 interview that she was not returning. Ryan Murphy clearly knew how to change her mind.
Lange is not coming back for just one part. She will reprise four of her former characters, including Constance Langdon and Fiona Goode. She also returns as Elsa Mars from ‘Freak Show’.
The rest of the ensemble reads like a greatest hits reunion. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman all return, alongside Frances Conroy, Jamie Brewer, John Carroll Lynch, Mena Suvari and Mat Fraser. John Waters also joined the cast in February 2026.
American Horror Story Trailer Teases and Returning Locations
Fans have had two big looks so far. The first trailer arrived on August 13, and a second followed on September 10, 2026. Both have set social media buzzing about just how many old faces are in play.
The teaser leans hard on nostalgia. It opens with Lange as Constance Langdon saying it is good to be back. Lange has described the season as a celebration of miscreants, murderous demons and profanity.
Familiar places are coming back too. The newest trailer reveals that Fiona Goode’s personal hell, the knotty pine cabin from ‘Coven’, has returned. The season also turns its gaze back to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies.
