‘Michael’ Star Laura Harrier Turns Heads in Milan in a Glossy Plum Backless Gown During Fashion Week
Milan Fashion Week has a way of turning the whole city into a runway, and this season is no exception. Between the shows, the front rows and the street-style hunters, celebrity looks tend to travel faster than the collections themselves. The Laura Harrier moment on Thursday is a good example.
The week itself is a big one. Milan’s September edition runs from September 22 to 28 with the Spring/Summer 2027 women’s collections, and the calendar includes 54 physical shows and six digital ones. Prada opened the week, Fendi followed with Maria Grazia Chiuri’s second collection for the house, and there are plenty of fresh creative chapters to watch.

Harrier wears a fitted, floor-length gown in a deep plum-burgundy shade with a glossy, polished finish that catches the light like patent leather. The neckline is a halter, and the back is fully open, so the silhouette reads as sleek from the front and dramatic from behind. Visible seaming runs along the body of the dress, giving the column shape a structured, almost sculptural quality.
The styling keeps the focus on the dress. Her hair is slicked back into a smooth low bun, which leaves the bare back and halter straps as the centerpiece, and the makeup is understated. The photos show her posing from behind and in profile, looking over her shoulder toward the camera.
The setting adds to the drama. She stands on a balcony overlooking a grand glass-domed arcade, with painted arches and ornate architecture behind her. The dark, glossy gown against the pale stonework and glass makes for an especially striking contrast.

Harrier’s exact destination that day wasn’t detailed alongside the images, but the week around her is packed. Milan is also seeing some notable changes this season. Glenn Martens presents his final collection as creative director at Diesel, Versace isn’t showing, and Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo of Sunnei debut as the new designers at Moschino on September 25.
Louise Trotter follows on September 26 with her third collection for Bottega Veneta. That Saturday is the most congested day of the week, with Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabbana, MSGM, Laura Biagiotti and Bottega Veneta all showing within the same stretch of hours. Giorgio Armani closes things out with its women’s spring 2027 line at 11 a.m. CET on Sunday.
The front rows have been star-packed too. Monica Bellucci, Rachel Zegler, Kelly Rutherford and Jordyn Woods sat at Jil Sander, Fendi and Missoni, while Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid and Cardi B have also been seen around the week’s festivities. That makes Milan a fitting place for a look this bold.
Harrier is no stranger to the city’s fashion calendar. She attended the Gucci Fall/Winter 2026 show at Palazzo Delle Scintille in Milan on February 27, 2026, and she has built a reputation for daring evening looks. At last year’s Academy Museum Gala she wore a black sequin Gucci by Demna gown, then changed into a sheer black Dolce & Gabbana dress from the brand’s spring 2024 collection for the after-party.
Compared with those, the plum gown is a more streamlined take on glamour, relying on shine, cut and an open back rather than embellishment. It’s a look that works equally well in a candid balcony shoot as it would in the front row.
