Colleen Hoover has become one of publishing’s most reliable names for turning bestsellers into buzzy Hollywood adaptations, and her psychological thriller catalog is only getting bigger onscreen. Following the record-breaking success of ‘It Ends With Us,’ attention has now shifted to ‘Verity,’ Amazon MGM Studios’ take on Hoover’s twisted 2018 novel that sold more than 1 million copies in 2023 alone.

The film has been building momentum for months, from its CinemaCon reveal to a steady drip of production photos showing Dakota Johnson covered in fake blood on the streets of New York. With the theatrical release now just days away, the cast finally got their moment to celebrate the project on the international stage.

That moment came together on September 24 at the Curzon Mayfair in London, where ‘Verity’ held its UK gala screening. Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, the film’s two co-leads alongside Anne Hathaway, arrived together and posed for photos on the red carpet, with Johnson wearing a cream lace dress from Colleen Allen’s Spring 2026 collection.

Hathaway’s absence from the London event didn’t go unnoticed, especially since she was spotted the same night doing press in New York City instead. The timing lines up with reports that Hathaway is in the final weeks of pregnancy, having announced the news more than three months earlier, and air travel is typically discouraged that late in a pregnancy.

Despite skipping the UK screening, Hathaway isn’t stepping back from promotion altogether, with a New York premiere for the film reportedly planned for the following week. ‘Verity’ marks Hathaway’s fifth film release of the year, according to Red Carpet Fashion Awards, underscoring just how packed her schedule has been even as she prepares for a major life change.

‘Verity’ follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer played by Johnson, who lands what seems like a dream opportunity when she’s hired to ghostwrite for celebrated author Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway. While staying at the remote Crawford estate to complete the author’s unfinished book series, Lowen stumbles across what appear to be Verity’s own autobiographical notes, filled with disturbing confessions about her husband Jeremy, played by Hartnett.

Michael Showalter directs the adaptation from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, with Hathaway also serving as one of the film’s producers alongside Hoover herself. The supporting cast includes Ismael Cruz Córdova and Brady Wagner, rounding out a thriller that leans heavily on the same slow-burn dread that made Hoover’s novel a phenomenon among readers.
