‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Adds 4 New Scenes Tying Directly Into ‘Doomsday’ — Here’s Every Reveal Explained
Marvel Studios has never been shy about revisiting its own history, but few re-releases have carried the weight of turning a beloved ending into the opening chapter of something bigger. ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ gave the Infinity Saga’s first generation of heroes a send-off that fans have spent years treating as untouchable, making any attempt to expand it a genuine risk.
That risk is exactly what Marvel took with ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ a theatrical re-release arriving in theaters on September 25 that runs roughly 185 minutes, about four minutes longer than the original cut. Rather than simply cleaning up the picture for a nostalgia run, Marvel used the extra runtime to shoot brand-new footage during production on ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ turning the re-release into a direct narrative bridge between the two films.
Four new scenes make up that bridge, and each one reshapes how the ending of ‘Endgame’ connects to the multiversal chaos awaiting audiences in December. The most immediately jarring change comes during Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s final dance, a moment fans have treated as sacred since 2019, which now gets interrupted by a knock at the door.
That visitor turns out to be Loki, appearing in his Time Variance Authority uniform after having sacrificed himself at the end of ‘Loki’ Season 2 to hold the entire multiverse together. His presence raises an immediate question, since Steve technically shouldn’t be in this universe at all after his time-travel decision, and the TVA exists specifically to hunt down people who create unstable branches like his. Rather than punishing Steve, later footage suggests Loki actually helps the couple avoid detection, allowing them to quietly live out the family life glimpsed in ‘Doomsday’ trailers.
That small act of mercy comes with a cost, though, since the branch Steve created appears tied to the larger multiversal disaster unfolding elsewhere in the new footage.

Back at TVA headquarters, a separate new scene finds Mobius, Ouroboros and Casey monitoring what first looks like a routine incursion between Earth-10005, the original Fox X-Men universe, and Earth-1127. What begins as a single collision quickly spirals, with Mobius watching Earth-7355 and Earth-0557 terminate in real time before the count balloons to roughly 3,000 universes colliding simultaneously. The sequence ends with Ouroboros stating plainly that the multiverse is collapsing, a line that all but confirms the TVA’s role in ‘Doomsday’ itself.

The film’s third new scene picks up after the events of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ finding Bruce Banner locked in an underground bunker working on a serum to suppress his transformations following his mind-controlled rampage in that film. Before he can finish, Doctor Doom breaks in, and Bruce turns into the Hulk to face him as the scene cuts away, confirming for the first time that the Hulk will factor into ‘Doomsday’ in some capacity.
The final surprise arrives at the very end of the credits, where the original ‘Endgame’ famously played nothing but the sound of Tony Stark hammering metal in a cave, a callback to his origin in 2008’s ‘Iron Man.’ The new footage finally shows what’s making that sound: Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., forging his own mask by hand. Since Downey previously played Tony, the image doubles as a pointed visual rhyme, transforming a sound cue once tied to a hero’s birth into a quiet warning about the villain now wearing his face.
Together, the four scenes make clear that ‘Endgame Encore’ isn’t just trading on nostalgia, it’s actively rewriting how the ending of one saga sets up the next. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following in December 2027 to close out the Multiverse Saga entirely.
