‘Obsession’ Star Inde Navarrette Is the New Face of Gap’s Biggest Denim Moment Yet, and Fans Can’t Look Away
Fall fashion campaigns tend to blur together year after year, but every so often a brand manages to pair the right faces with the right song and the right energy to make people actually stop scrolling. Gap seems to have pulled that off again this season, tapping two rising names whose combined momentum is impossible to ignore.
The retailer has leaned heavily on denim nostalgia in recent years, but this time the marketing push feels less like a throwback and more like a coronation for its newest ambassadors. Social media has already taken notice, with campaign clips and photos racking up steady engagement since they dropped.
That buzz centers on Gap’s Fall 2026 campaign, ‘Denim on Your Own,’ which stars musician Malcolm Todd alongside actress Inde Navarrette. The two front a campaign built around GapDenim, set to Todd’s original rendition of Robyn’s classic ‘Dancing on My Own,’ recorded specifically for the project.

The campaign was directed by Tanu Muiño, with creative direction from Calvin Leung, Gap’s Head of Brand Creative, and photography from Bjorn Iooss. It follows Todd and Navarrette through a series of distinct spaces as each of them expresses their own personal style, with Navarrette modeling the season’s new Mid-Rise Straight Taper Jean and Todd wearing the returning ’90s Loose Jean.

‘Denim on Your Own’ rolled out across Gap’s digital and social channels, email, and stores, alongside out-of-home placements including billboards in New York’s Times Square and on Sunset Boulevard. The rollout also included paid media across YouTube, TikTok, Meta and Pinterest, positioning this as one of the brand’s more ambitious pushes of the year.

For Navarrette, the appeal of the shoot went beyond simply modeling new denim. Reflecting on the project, the actress said filming allowed her and Todd to bring their real personalities into the work rather than sticking to a rigid script.
“There was so much freedom to move, experiment and express ourselves,” Navarrette said in a statement provided by Gap. “That’s what makes style so personal — it’s about feeling confident in who you are and showing up as yourself.”
That sense of freedom clearly extended beyond the Gap set for Navarrette this year. Speaking with Rolling Stone about her 2026 in general, she described a throughline connecting her creative choices, from acting to personal style.
“I had the freedom to bring Nikki to life in ‘Obsession,’ and then I’ve had the freedom now with clothes,” Navarrette told Rolling Stone. “I feel like freedom was kind of my theme of the year.”
That reference to ‘Obsession’ isn’t incidental, since the film is largely responsible for Navarrette’s sudden rise this year. The independent horror movie, made on a reported budget of just $750,000, went on to gross more than $488 million worldwide, turning Navarrette’s lead performance as Nikki into one of the year’s most talked-about breakouts.
The film’s success has also generated early Oscar buzz around her performance, adding another layer of momentum to a year that already includes a major fashion campaign. It’s the kind of rapid ascent that makes brands like Gap eager to attach a fresh face to a legacy product line.
Navarrette isn’t slowing down either, with the thriller ‘Invertigo’ already lined up as her next project alongside the producers behind ‘Obsession.’ Between a horror hit, a high-profile campaign, and awards conversations swirling around her name, 2026 is shaping up to be the year that turned Navarrette from a promising newcomer into an genuine industry name to watch.
