‘Minions & Monsters’ Heads to Peacock After a Wild Summer at the Box Office
Summer 2026 was crowded with animated heavyweights. ‘Toy Story 5’ was dominating theaters, and a live-action ‘Moana’ arrived shortly after. ‘Minions & Monsters’ landed right in the middle of that wave when it opened on July 1.
The movie is the seventh installment in the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise and the third in the Minions prequel series. Set in 1920s Hollywood, it tells the story of how the Minions conquered the movie business, became stars, lost everything and then unleashed monsters onto the world. Pierre Coffin, who voices the Minions, directed with Patrick Delage and co-wrote the script with Brian Lynch.
Now the film is heading to the small screen. Variety reports that ‘Minions & Monsters’ will be available to stream on Peacock on Wednesday, Oct. 28, after earning $523 million at the summer box office. That is 119 days after its theatrical debut, and 2 days earlier than some predictions had guessed.
The film runs 90 minutes and is rated PG for violence and action, language, and rude and macabre humor. It stars Coffin, Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr. Filmmaker George Lucas also has a role in the film.
Peacock is also adding ‘Minions’, ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Despicable Me 2’, which makes for an easy warm-up marathon. The listing includes bonus featurettes on the film’s early Hollywood setting, its casting and composer John Powell’s score.
Anyone who can’t wait has had options for a while. The movie hit digital rental and purchase on Aug. 11, and physical copies followed on Sept. 8. Peacock Premium currently costs $10.99 per month with ads.
The theatrical run was more complicated than the final number suggests. The film opened at No. 1 with a franchise-low 3-day debut of $36.4 million, and a $61.4 million 5-day total over the July 4 weekend. By comparison, ‘Despicable Me 4’ brought in $122 million over the same stretch in 2024, and ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ opened to about $123 million in 2022.
It still finished as a hit. The film reportedly cost $85 million to make, and it drew stronger numbers overseas, where its worldwide opening reached $146.4 million across 72 territories.

The reviews were a bright spot. ‘Minions & Monsters’ holds a Certified Fresh 90% on Rotten Tomatoes from 155 critics, the highest score any Illumination release has carried. The critics’ consensus called it the franchise’s most roundly enjoyable entry so far.
Reviewers described it as an affectionate homage to classic moviemaking, with so many visual gags and Easter eggs that repeat viewings feel necessary. Audiences were a little less effusive. The film earned an A- CinemaScore, though its Rotten Tomatoes audience score sits at 75% from more than 1,000 verified ratings.

That critic-versus-audience gap is exactly why the Peacock debut could matter. Families who skipped theaters, whether because of a crowded release calendar or a rental price they weren’t willing to pay, can now sample the movie at no extra cost. For a film that critics praised so heavily, a second life on streaming could help it find the audience it didn’t quite reach in July.
It also gives the Minions a fresh home just in time for the fall. With the older films joining it, Peacock is effectively becoming a one-stop shop for the franchise.
