New ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Featurette Lands as the Home Release Draws Near
Blockbusters rarely go quiet once they leave the opening weekend, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is no exception. Sony has kept a steady stream of behind-the-scenes material flowing, including a costume featurette in June that explored how Tom Holland’s suit was designed. Now another one has arrived just as the film’s home release approaches.
The film has been a monster hit, earning about $2.496 billion worldwide since its July 31 debut. It also took the No. 1 spot on the domestic all-time chart in mid-September, and Sony extended its theatrical run through November 16. For a movie still playing in cinemas, a fresh featurette is as much a marketing tool as a bonus.
The latest clip was shared by IGN. The new ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ featurette runs 1 minute and 23 seconds and opens on a hooded figure in a long leather coat walking across a gravel plaza. Judging by the styling, it appears to spotlight Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, though IGN’s full video is the best place to confirm exactly what the clip covers.

If the featurette does center on Jean, that makes sense. She is the MCU’s first X-Men character to appear on screen, and her identity was kept under wraps until roughly halfway through the film. For much of the story she is treated as the villain, a teenage telepath who possesses people to attack facilities of the Department of Damage Control.
By the end, Peter Parker has formed a connection with her and gained a better understanding of her struggles as a hugely powerful teenager. Her final scene shows her on a bus that may be heading toward Westchester County, home of Charles Xavier’s school in the comics. Sink is also expected to reprise the role in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ and an untitled X-Men film.
In a Variety interview published in August, Sink said she worked only about 20 days on the film. Much of the work took place in preparation, and she also came in on certain days to block scenes. She described doing rehearsals with Holland and a full day in which she delivered every scene where she speaks through someone else, so the other actors had a reference.
She said she noticed other performers mimicking her delivery in the finished film, especially Zendaya. She also recalled that Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito called her to explain the character and her role in ‘Spider-Man’. Those details show how much planning went into keeping Jean’s reveal a surprise.

The featurette also fits into a bigger home entertainment rollout. The film arrives on digital platforms on October 6, and physical editions follow in December. Reports have cited December 14 and December 15 for the disc release, so the exact date is worth checking with retailers.
ScreenRant reported that the 4K, Blu-ray and digital editions will include featurettes exploring new players like Sink’s Jean Grey, the return of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and the many villains. The DVD edition is listed with ‘Tom Holland: The Evolving Spider’, ‘Brand New Direction’ and ‘Friends and Foes’. Collectors can also choose among SteelBook packages that were previously listed for pre-order.
Audiences and critics have been generous. ScreenRant noted that the film holds 90% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 435 reviews and a 97% audience score. Critics and fans both praised Holland and Sink for revealing the emotional side of their characters.
That positive reaction has given Sony room to keep the film in theaters while announcing digital dates. It has also encouraged the studio to invest in the director. Destin Daniel Cretton signed a three-year deal with Sony after the film’s success, and executives praised him as a brilliant filmmaker and storyteller.
There’s another wrinkle. Deadline reported that Sony is planning a theatrical re-release with extra footage, including a restored scene with Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple. No date has been announced, and Sony has not commented.
That means fans may see the film in multiple forms in the coming months. Between digital, discs, an extended theatrical run and a possible re-release, Sony is squeezing every bit of value from its biggest hit. A steady flow of featurettes keeps the conversation going.
For now, viewers can check IGN’s clip and wait for the digital release next week. If Sony follows its recent pattern, more behind-the-scenes videos will likely follow. Each one adds a little more context about how the film was made.
Whether you’re a fan of Jean Grey, the Punisher or the web-slinger himself, there is plenty to look forward to. The film’s home release will let audiences rewatch every scene at their own pace. That may be the best way to catch details the theatrical run hid.
