‘Sinners’ Star Hailee Steinfeld Brings Velvet Glamour to ‘The Tonight Show’ as Her Disney Return Nears

Hailee Steinfeld has a long, comfortable history with the late-night couch. She performed on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ back in 2017 and returned in 2019 to talk about the Apple TV+ series ‘Dickinson’. In 2020, she performed her single “I Love You’s” in an at-home edition of the show.

Her career gives Fallon plenty to work with. Steinfeld is an Oscar-nominated actress and singer who got her big break in ‘True Grit’, and her credits also include the ‘Pitch Perfect’ franchise, ‘The Edge of Seventeen’ and ‘Bumblebee’. She was last on the show in April 2025 to promote her supernatural horror movie ‘Sinners’.

That brings us to the latest Hailee Steinfeld Tonight Show appearance, which took place on Tuesday, September 29, in Episode 2349. She sat down for an interview with Fallon and also took part in a game segment with the host, and the first photos from the night have been making the rounds online.

The images shared online show Steinfeld in a deep burgundy crushed-velvet top with a high neckline and long sleeves. She paired it with a dark skirt finished with beaded fringe, and wore her long hair in voluminous waves.

She was smiling in both shots, one standing and one seated in a gray armchair, with the show’s glowing New York skyline backdrop behind her. It is a moody, romantic palette that suits the season.

The look echoes her previous Fallon appearance. In April 2025, she wore a take on the dark glamour trend, with a long-sleeved, high-necked top evocative of the Victorian era and a wrap skirt with floral lace detailing.

Steinfeld did not appear alone that night. Actor Daniel Kaluuya and baseball player Justin Verlander also joined Fallon for interviews, with Magnus Ferrell as the musical guest.

The week’s lineup was busy in general. Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett and musical guest Gracie Abrams appeared the night before. Heavy noted that one of Steinfeld’s fellow guests was connected to her ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ work.

Heavy reported that it was unclear which project Steinfeld planned to promote on the show. One title on her calendar is Disney’s animated feature ‘Hexed’, which premieres in theaters on November 25.

Steinfeld has said the project is the first she has worked on since having her baby, and that it was shot during and after her pregnancy. She has described the mother-daughter story as deeply meaningful to her.

The Tonight Show appearance came during a packed few days. Steinfeld is married to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, and she traveled to Manhattan for the taping two days after the Bills-Chargers game.

She also shared in her Beau Society newsletter that she had been having a rough time lately, including a restless night with her daughter. It is a reminder that the polished carpet moments sit alongside a very full life.

Steinfeld’s past visits have often been lighthearted. In 2016, she joined Woody Harrelson on the show to look back on ‘The Edge of Seventeen’ bloopers.

In April 2025, Fallon congratulated her on her engagement to Allen and showed a downtown Buffalo billboard welcoming her to the city. She told him she had been given a very warm welcome there and loved the place.
