Colleen Hoover and Emily Henry Share a Bookish Red Carpet Moment at the ‘Verity’ Premiere
Few authors have shaped the modern book-to-screen boom like Colleen Hoover and Emily Henry. Both are among the most recognizable names in popular fiction, with devoted online followings and shelves of bestsellers that Hollywood keeps mining.
Hoover’s book-to-screen run is a big reason why. She optioned ‘It Ends With Us’, ‘Regretting You’ and ‘Verity’ for seven-figure sums within a 6-month span in 2019 and early 2020, according to Forbes. ‘Verity‘ now marks her 4th adaptation in just over 2 years.
Henry has felt the same effect. Spotify reported a 515% jump in downloads for the audiobook of her novel ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ after the Netflix movie arrived.

That shared success is what made a photo from the New York premiere of ‘Verity’ so fitting. Variety shared an image of Henry and Hoover posing together at the event on September 29, and it quickly made the rounds among book fans.
Henry’s presence gave the premiere another jolt of bookish star power. Hoover’s large BookTok following has been a key part of Amazon MGM Studios’ marketing for the film.

Hoover stood out in a gold satin gown with red accents and red shoes, a look Parade described as head-turning. Henry went sparkly in a shimmering metallic mini dress and strappy black heels, keeping her long, wavy hair loose.
Behind them, the red Amazon MGM Studios backdrop with its oversized ‘Verity’ lettering completed a picture that could have come from a book cover.
Parade noted that Hoover, 46, attended while dealing with a cancer diagnosis, and that she was determined to be at one of the biggest movie premieres of her career. She has not shared the specific diagnosis, though she has said it was surgically removed and was followed by radiation.
Hoover self-published ‘Verity’ in 2018, and Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021. The psychological thriller sold more than 1 million copies in 2023 alone, so the premiere marked a long road from self-publishing to the big screen.
She is also a producer on the film, alongside Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Michael Showalter, Jordana Mollick and Anne Hathaway.

The New York event took place at AMC Lincoln Square 13, and it was a big night for the cast. Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett walked the carpet, and director Michael Showalter, screenwriter Nick Antosca and co-star Ismael Cruz Córdova joined them. The celebration continued after the screening at the Central Park Boathouse.
The film follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired as a ghostwriter for renowned author Verity Crawford under mysterious circumstances. It is rated R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence and bloody images, and it opens only in theaters on Friday, October 2.
Both authors are watching their stories become major screen events, one through theatrical releases and the other through streaming. With ‘Verity’ hitting theaters this week and more Henry adaptations on the way, the trend shows no signs of slowing.
Hoover has also been promoting the film enthusiastically on her own social feed, and the New York carpet gave her a chance to celebrate alongside a fellow author whose books are also thriving on screen.
