Callina Liang has never followed a straight career path, which makes her latest London photo feel fitting. Born in Vancouver, she grew up between Beijing, Sydney and Singapore, studied performance at LASALLE College of the Arts, and later trained at drama school in New York before moving on to film studies in Toronto.
That international upbringing left her fluent in both English and Mandarin. It also eventually led her to London, where she landed her first major screen role in the ITVX teen drama ‘Tell Me Everything’. She played Mei across 6 episodes and got her first taste of stunt work, then popped up in an episode of ‘Foundation’.
Her rise since has been steady rather than sudden, and this month it is speeding up. On September 29, a new photo of Liang in London started circulating online, and it is already giving ‘Street Fighter’ fans something to talk about.
Liang shared the image via Instagram stories, and it shows her posing in front of Big Ben. She strikes a peace sign with one arm stretched toward the camera, wearing a brown plaid mini set with a fringed bag and her long dark hair falling over her shoulder.
A “hi” and a London location tag sit over the frame, giving it the feel of a casual travel snap. She is reportedly based in the city, so the image reads like a small moment of downtime.
The photo arrives as the countdown to ‘Street Fighter’ ramps up. The movie hits theaters on October 16, and Liang plays Chun-Li, the Interpol agent who has been kicking her way through the franchise since her debut in ‘Street Fighter II: The World Warrior’ as one of gaming’s first playable female fighting stars.
Recent behind-the-scenes photos showed her in Chun-Li’s familiar blue costume, complete with hair buns and spiked wrist cuffs, posing beside a production RV marked with the character’s name. Liang reportedly downloaded all the ‘Street Fighter’ titles to her PlayStation 5 and studied Chun-Li’s movements from game videos frame by frame.

Kitao Sakurai directs the film, which had a director switch from Danny and Michael Philippou. Liang stars alongside Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, David Dastmalchian, Jason Momoa, Cody Rhodes, Eric André, 50 Cent and Roman Reigns.
A trailer suggests the movie will stay faithful to the games, right down to the character looks and signature moves. A new teaser also showed recreations of iconic fight moves from the game.
Liang’s fashion profile has been growing alongside the film. On September 15, she shared newly released portraits in a striped Miu Miu mini dress, which fans quickly picked up on social media.
Between her expanding fashion presence and a starring role in one of the year’s most anticipated video game adaptations, 2026 is shaping up to be a defining stretch in her career.
Her path to this moment was shaped by a Sundance breakout. Liang starred in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ and in the ‘Bad Genius’ remake, both released in 2024, and she was cast as Chun-Li in June 2025.
