Florence Pugh Owns ‘East of Eden’ After-Party in a Waist-Defining Black Top, Pleated Gray Skirt & Flirty Side Bow
Netflix’s ‘East of Eden‘ is finally here, with all 7 episodes of the limited series landing on Oct. 1. Zoe Kazan’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel has had a long road to the screen, and its lead has spent the past couple of weeks making sure nobody forgets it.
Pugh, who stars as Cathy Ames and also serves as an executive producer, has turned the promotional run into a rolling fashion showcase. She kicked things off on Sept. 17 at a West Hollywood screening in an embroidered yellow tulle Rodarte ensemble with Bvlgari jewelry. Ten days later, she showed up at the Paley Center for Media in New York in a white gown covered in silver rhinestones.

Her latest appearance may be the most understated of the bunch. At the Vanity Fair after-party for ‘East of Eden’, Pugh wore a black top and a gray pleated skirt, with sequins defining her waist and a black bow appearing on the side of the skirt, according to photos. The shots show her in a polished, slightly moody mix that feels a long way from the fairy-tale gowns of earlier stops.

The outfit appears to come from Erdem, a London-based label, which fits Pugh’s British roots. It also appears to match a look W Magazine spotted at an ‘East of Eden’ event at San Vicente in the West Village on Sept. 29. Fans online were quick to weigh in, with 1 X user calling the black-and-gray pairing a fashion masterpiece.
Erdem has been a recurring thread this week. At the ‘East of Eden’ Netflix event in New York, Pugh wore a white Erdem Resort 2027 dress with an exaggerated silhouette, finished with silver Aquazzura sandals and Bvlgari jewels. For the London premiere, she went dark with a black taffeta Rodarte ballgown and a Bvlgari necklace carrying around 60 carats of diamonds and rubellite.
The contrast between those looks has become part of the story. The black gown leaned into the gothic themes of the series, while the white New York dress felt light and almost bridal. The after-party outfit lands somewhere in between, pairing sharp tailoring with a bit of sparkle at the waist.

East of Eden, a fresh interpretation of the Steinbeck classic, premieres October 1.

The fashion moments are landing alongside the show itself. Pugh leads a cast that includes Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Hoon Lee as Lee and Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton. The story follows Cathy’s arrival into the Trask family and the rift it creates between 2 brothers.
It has been a busy stretch for the actress. Pugh also appears in a new Vanity Fair shoot, and she is set to return as Yelena in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on Dec. 18. With the Netflix premiere now live, the press tour wardrobe may be winding down, but this look suggests Pugh is saving a few surprises for the finish line.
