It has been a long wait for fans of the android Avenger. Five years after ‘WandaVision’ left White Vision flying off in search of his identity, Marvel is finally bringing the synthezoid back. Development on a Vision series began by October 2022, so the ‘VisionQuest’ trailer rollout has been a long time coming.

The series also carries a lot of narrative weight. It will conclude the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ in 2021 and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’ in 2024. Vision himself was killed by Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ before being resurrected by Wanda in ‘WandaVision’, which is why his story has been so tangled ever since.

That wait is nearly over. On October 1. The new trailer for ‘VisionQuest’ has been released, repeating that the series lands on Disney+ on October 14. The clip runs 2 minutes and 37 seconds and comes from Marvel Studios.

The newest footage leans into Vision’s history and his look. Marvel Entertainment released a promo video on YouTube on October 1 that traces the character’s journey, with Paul Bettany recapping his path from creation to death and resurrection as White Vision. The same promo confirms a long-awaited costume redesign, with an updated emerald and gold color scheme revealed during a teased fight between Vision and Ultron.

That is a notable change for a character who has worn the same deep teal-green and dark maroon bodysuit with a yellow-gold cape since his 2015 debut. Marvel Television has also announced that the show will open with a two-episode premiere, according to The Direct, which reported the new trailer ahead of the Disney+ debut.

According to the official description, Vision is rebooted and has escaped those who wanted to weaponize him, spending his time in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas built into his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and the infamous Ultron. The earlier trailer showed him working in a British pub, even carving a W+V heart into the bar.

A bounty then sends him on the run with a teenager who may be his reincarnated son, Tommy Maximoff. Todd Stashwick plays a bounty hunter named Paladin. James Spader returns as Ultron, and this time he appears in the flesh as a bearded, bespectacled human avatar inside Vision’s mind.

Bettany has previously framed the series as a story about intergenerational trauma and fathers and sons, with Ultron serving as something like a father figure to Vision. That theme gives the surreal imagery in the footage a clear emotional anchor. The footage also suggests reality and fantasy will mix across the eight episodes, including a message from a son who is real but also not real.

The ensemble is deep. Emily Hampshire plays E.D.I.T.H., Orla Brady is F.R.I.D.A.Y., James D’Arcy is J.A.R.V.I.S. and T’Nia Miller is Jocasta. Lauren Morais plays Lisa Molinari, and Ruaridh Mollica plays the grown-up version of Tommy Maximoff.

Terry Matalas, the ‘Star Trek: Picard’ showrunner, created the series. ‘VisionQuest’ is an eight-episode run, and Marvel’s schedule has the first two episodes arriving on October 14, followed by episode 3 on October 21. The remaining installments are expected to land on Wednesdays, with the finale set for November 25, a week earlier than the originally expected December 2.

The timing is deliberate, since the finale will arrive just over three weeks before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Marvel Television has used double premieres before for ‘WandaVision’, ‘Hawkeye’ and ‘Agatha All Along’, so the format fits the studio’s approach to its trilogy capper. A two-episode opener also gives the show room to establish Vision’s Mind Space and its cast of familiar artificial intelligences before the central mystery kicks in.

For longtime MCU viewers, the pitch is simple: a redesigned Vision, a flesh-and-blood Ultron and a family storyline that has been building since 2021. Whether the finale delivers on that promise remains to be seen.
