When Steve Rogers handed off his shield and shared that long-awaited dance with Peggy Carter at the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ many fans believed his story was finished. Chris Evans himself seemed to agree, telling Esquire in January that reports of his return were false. That is why the Steve Rogers return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has felt like such a seismic surprise for Marvel fans.

The comeback was confirmed in a brief teaser showing Steve parking a motorcycle outside a rural home and cradling a newborn baby. It marks Evans’ first time playing the character in seven years. Since then, the full trailer has teased an even bigger moment, with Steve meeting Thor and summoning Mjolnir to prove he has returned from retirement.

On Oct. 2, MCU Film News shared a first look at Hot Toys’ Steve Rogers figure from ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ The 1/6-scale collectible stands about 12 inches tall with 30 points of articulation, and the promotional images show Steve in a black T-shirt and brown jacket, gripping a cracked Mjolnir crackling with blue lightning. It is a far cry from the star-spangled suit fans remember.

The figure features a newly developed Evans head sculpt with separate rolling eyeballs, realistic skin textures, a detailed beard and sculpted mid-length, brushed-back brown hair. The outfit includes a charcoal brown jacket, black T-shirt, olive-brown pants, a black belt and black shoes. Hot Toys even sculpted his wedding ring on each left hand.

The star accessory is Thor’s cracked Mjolnir, which features an LED light-up function and a translucent blue lightning effect. The figure also includes two pairs of silicone arms, one of them a seamless pair posed for holding the hammer, along with eight interchangeable hands. A removable jacket and a display stand round out the set.

Hot Toys is offering several versions. The Special Edition in selected markets includes an exclusive life-size metal ring, while a Deluxe Version, still in development, adds a Sentinel-themed diorama base with LED lighting. Sneak-peek pricing in certain regions lists the standard edition at 1,557 Hong Kong dollars and the Deluxe at 2,142 Hong Kong dollars.

Pre-orders aren’t live yet, though they are expected soon on Sideshow Collectibles with a 2027 release date. That timing means collectors have plenty of time to decide whether to add Cap to their growing ‘Doomsday’ shelf.

The figure’s casual look reflects how different Steve appears in the new film. Marvel confirmed that Evans’ Steve will have longer hair and a full beard, a look similar to his ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ appearance, rather than the clean-cut soldier of earlier films. One outlet joked that the new figure finds Cap looking like a regular dude, and fans have largely embraced the rugged style.

It also leaves a question lingering over Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, who remains part of the ‘Doomsday’ cast. Fans have wondered how both characters will coexist, though early merchandise suggests Steve will wield Mjolnir while Sam keeps the shield. Evans has also teased that ‘Doomsday’ will be a brutal film for his character.

Hot Toys’ Steve pairs neatly with its Thor figure, revealed in September, which includes a light-up Mjolnir alongside Stormbreaker. The wider collection also covers Professor X, Cyclops, Gambit, Magneto and Doctor Doom. Together they show how stacked the film’s lineup is.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in U.S. theaters on Dec. 18, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and pitting heroes from across the multiverse against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. If this figure is any hint, Steve Rogers is returning in a very different form.

What do you think of Hot Toys’ rugged Steve Rogers figure for Avengers: Doomsday?
