Is ‘Wednesday’ Ending Soon? Stunt Double’s Deleted Posts Spark Fan Panic

Few streaming hits have left a mark like Netflix’s ‘Wednesday.’ Tim Burton’s gothic comedy launched in November 2022 and became the streamer’s most-watched English-language series of all time, and its second season later pulled 50 million views in its first five days, matching the debut of the first. Now questions about the ‘Wednesday’ ending are spreading across social media.

The timing is no accident. The series has moved at a famously slow pace, with Season 2 arriving a little under three years after the debut. By the time Season 3 premieres, viewers could have spent about five real-world years following a show with only three seasons to show for it.

On Sept. 30, Netflix announced that production on Season 3 had officially wrapped, sharing a new photo of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams sitting at a typewriter. The streamer’s wrap message played on the show’s macabre humor by saying production had met its grave. Soon afterward, the internet found a different clue.

Jenny Ayumi, Ortega’s longtime stunt double on the series, posted a pair of Instagram Stories after the wrap that seemed to suggest her time on the show had come to an end. She described the moment as the end of an era and the close of a 5-year chapter. Shortly after posting, she deleted the first Story, which only fueled more speculation.

“End of an era.. 🖤

A 5 year chapter finally comes to a close 🎬🖤”

“A little throwback to where it all began 5 years ago in Romania 🥹🖤”

Netflix has not announced that Season 3 will be the show’s final season, so the posts shouldn’t be treated as confirmation of a cancellation. Ayumi’s words could just as easily reflect her personal experience wrapping a long shoot rather than the show’s overall future. Still, the deletion and Netflix’s recent habit of announcing final seasons have kept the theory alive.

Production on Season 3 began in February 2026 near Dublin, with additional filming in Paris. Reports have suggested that filming was paused at one point while scripts were revised, and that the shoot dealt with an on-set injury. The season is expected to run eight episodes, though Netflix hasn’t confirmed whether they will arrive together or in parts.

Ortega has said the season is set during Wednesday’s senior year at Nevermore Academy, about a year after the start of Season 2. She also told Esquire in August that the series is coming to a head. That setup naturally positions the season as a transition, with graduation looming over the story.

Netflix renewed the series for Season 3 in July 2025, before Season 2 even premiered. Tim Burton returns as executive producer and is directing parts of the new season. Netflix has not announced a release date, but a 2027 premiere is widely expected.

The cast is stacked. Returning stars include Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers and Isaac Ordonez, while newcomers include Eva Green as Aunt Ophelia, Winona Ryder, Lena Headey, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer. Joanna Lumley has been promoted to series regular.

Ophelia is the key threat. She was revealed in Season 2 to be alive in Grandmama Hester’s basement, where she was seen writing ‘Wednesday Must Die’ on the wall. Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have indicated her return will have major consequences for the family.

Even if Season 3 is the last chapter of Wednesday’s time at Nevermore, the franchise isn’t necessarily over. An Uncle Fester spinoff starring Fred Armisen remains in active development at Netflix. Wednesday could also attend college or follow her path into adulthood, a creative transition that would expand the series beyond the school setting.

For now, the safest reading is that one version of ‘Wednesday’ may be nearing its end rather than the entire show. Netflix hasn’t said a word about Season 4, and fans will likely have to wait until closer to the 2027 premiere for answers.
