New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster Puts Doctor Doom’s Mysterious Witches Front and Center
Marvel’s marketing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has been remarkably consistent. Every new ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ poster seems to make the same point, which is that Doctor Doom is the center of the story. The campaign has kept its focus almost entirely on the villain, and fans have been dissecting each reveal.
The strategy started early. Marvel Studios released its first-ever Doctor Doom poster alongside the film’s trailer, declaring that “December 18th is Doomsday.” A later poster from the Comic-Con presentation gave Robert Downey Jr.’s character a full-body portrait in a green cloak and metal armor.
The newest piece of artwork takes the idea further. DiscussingFilm shared an HD version of the poster on X, and it shows Doom descending the steps of his throne room while three masked Latverian Witches stand behind him beneath a glowing green stained-glass window. The tagline “12.18.26 IS DOOMSDAY” runs across the bottom beside the Marvel Studios logo.

The big question is who is hiding under those masks. The masks stay on, so the poster identifies neither the performers nor whether familiar Marvel characters are beneath them. Fan theories have circulated, with Scarlet Witch, Clea and Sylvie among the names being floated, but none are confirmed.
The witches also appear to be a new addition rather than a comics staple. One outlet notes they are not part of Marvel Comics, and that fans have taken to calling them the Three Latverian Witches after the characters first surfaced during promotion at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The poster has also reignited rumors about a Wanda Maximoff comeback.
It’s worth noting how this artwork reached the public. One report says it is a physical promotional item being handed out at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga, which ran from Oct. 1 to Oct. 4 in Spain, rather than a standard Marvel Studios online release. That report cautions against treating the image as a cast announcement.
The Russo brothers direct the film, and the official description says heroes from three universes are set on a deadly collision course against an existential threat unlike anything they have faced. Marvel Studios has said Downey is playing Victor von Doom, not a returning Tony Stark.
The Comic-Con footage added atmosphere. In it, Doom sits in his throne room, with a glowing green, rune-like design on the floor, while Sue Storm’s voiceover says she didn’t know he was broken. That sets a more tragic tone for a villain who has mostly been framed as a threat.
The film also carries a long runtime of 165 minutes. With the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and returning X-Men all in the mix, that leaves plenty of room for a story built around Doom.
Marvel is also fighting for attention. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens the same day as ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which holds IMAX screens for three weeks, so Disney created its own Infinity Vision brand for premium showings. Tickets went on sale on July 20, ahead of Marvel’s Comic-Con presentation.

The first full trailer made a strong early impression, reportedly drawing roughly 503 million views in its first 24 hours. Marvel has also used ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ which began playing in theaters on Sept. 25, to give audiences an exclusive look at the new film, with an extra sneak peek for premium screens.
Each new poster adds to that momentum. Between the throne room, the witches and the villain himself, Marvel is giving fans plenty to theorize about while the release date approaches.
What do you think of Marvel putting the mysterious Latverian Witches front and center in the new Avengers: Doomsday poster?
