‘Sin City’ Star Jessica Alba (45) Revives Early-2000s Style in a Star-Print Y2K Look Borrowed From Her Teen Daughter
Few stars are as closely tied to the early 2000s as Jessica Alba. She rose to fame on ‘Dark Angel,’ then became a household name with films like ‘Honey,’ ‘Sin City’ and ‘Fantastic Four,’ so a Y2K-themed party is practically home turf.
The actress and entrepreneur recently proved it, turning a nostalgic dress code into one of the week’s most talked-about celebrity fashion moments. Her approach was also a lot more personal than a stylist’s pick.
The occasion was Paris Hilton’s Y2K-themed end-of-summer party, and Alba has now shared photos from the night on Instagram. In the selfies, she flashes a peace sign with a playful pout in a fitted, star-print cropped tank top, with a second mirror shot showing the full outfit with a dark ruffled miniskirt.
The top is a cropped tank in olive and beige tones covered in dark stars. Alba paired it with a low-rise miniskirt in the early-2000s style, layering on stacked necklaces, a chunky gold cuff bracelet and hoop earrings.
For the party itself she finished the outfit with brown knee-high boots and styled her brown-blonde hair half up and half down, with loose pieces framing her face. The soft, glowy makeup kept the focus on the throwback styling.
The best part of the story is where the outfit came from. Alba had planned to wear something else, but her 15-year-old daughter, Haven, stepped in and pulled pieces from her own closet to dress her mom for the party.
Alba thanked Haven in her Instagram caption and credited her daughter for the look. She also tagged the friends she attended with, actress Keke Palmer and Baby2Baby co-CEO Kelly Sawyer, and the carousel included a group selfie of the three.
The pairing of a Y2K icon and a Gen Z teenager’s wardrobe is part of why the post resonated. Fans flooded social media with comments about how youthful Alba looks at 45, with some saying she seems to be aging in reverse.
For Alba, the throwback is more than a costume. She made her big-screen debut in ‘Camp Nowhere’ in 1994, and the early 2000s are when she became one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces.
She has spoken about how her relationship with style has changed over the years, saying she feels more comfortable in her own skin as she gets older and does not take anything as seriously. A borrowed star-print top and a low-rise mini fit that attitude well.
Alba’s life has been busy beyond the party circuit. She founded The Honest Company in 2012 and stepped down as chief creative officer in April 2024, while remaining on the board and shifting her energy to new endeavors through her production company, Lady Spitfire.
That shift led to her acting return in the Netflix action movie ‘Trigger Warning,’ which she also produced. She is also a mom of three, with children Honor, Haven and Hayes.
She recently shared a separate summer photo dump of beach days and outings with friends, a collection that fans said had a nostalgic, carefree feel of its own. The new selfies from the Y2K night have since been recirculating on X, where fan accounts have reposted them.
Y2K fashion has been enjoying a long revival, with low-rise skirts, tiny tops and chunky jewelry back in constant rotation. When someone who actually lived through the era wears it, the result feels less like a trend and more like a callback.
With Hilton, Palmer and Sawyer by her side, Alba made the night look like exactly the type of party she would have been invited to 25 years ago.
