‘The Conjuring: Unspoken’ Trailer and Release Date Revealed

For nine films, ‘The Conjuring‘ has asked audiences to sit in the dark and watch someone braver walk into the basement. The franchise has expanded through spin-offs, sequels and even a Fortnite tie-in map for ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites,’ but it has never handed fans the ghost-hunting gear and asked them to do the job themselves.

That is about to change. ‘The Conjuring: Unspoken,’ announced earlier this fall as the franchise’s first standalone video game, has moved from a vague “coming soon” listing to a firm schedule, just in time for Halloween season.

Netflix has now confirmed the release date and unveiled the first official trailer, along with a batch of new screenshots. The game arrives exclusively on Netflix next week, and the trailer opens with a calm voice telling the player, “I’m here to look into the strange things that have been happening to you.”

The game is set in the Red Lion Inn, a decaying English pub where a family is haunted by an ancient evil. Players step into the role of demonologist Francesca Noakes, who investigates the haunting using her phone as a paranormal investigation tool. Netflix says players will also make life-or-death choices that shape the story.

The trailer and screenshots show dark, cinematic visuals, with the protagonist holding up her ghost-hunting tech in dimly lit corridors. The gear includes an electromagnetic field reader, an infrared camera and a spirit box, the tools of the trade for finding apparitions in the wild.

The haunting centers on the Cooper family. According to Netflix, players will use their wits and their smartphone to free the Coopers from the grip of a grief-feeding demon named Vinea and a ghost straight out of English folklore known as Florrie. It is a setup that fits the franchise’s usual blend of family trauma and slow-burn dread.

You do not need to have seen the movies to play. A few familiar faces pop up in the game, so franchise veterans will likely get more out of the experience.

This is not a typical mobile game. ‘The Conjuring: Unspoken’ is a cinematic, cloud-based title designed to be played on a television, with your phone serving as the controller. The big screen shows your virtual environment, while the device in your hand lets you use the investigation tools, putting it in the same family as Netflix’s recent TV games such as ‘Unhinged.’

The game comes from Supermassive Games, the studio behind ‘The Dark Pictures Anthology,’ ‘Until Dawn,’ ‘House of Ashes,’ ‘Little Hope’ and ‘Directive 8020.’ It was made in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. That pedigree explains why early comparisons have pointed to ‘Until Dawn,’ a similarly choice-driven horror experience.

The path to this reveal was unusually quiet. The game first surfaced in Netflix’s monthly newsletter in late September, where it was described in just 2 sentences and listed with no developer, no gameplay footage and no date beyond “October.” Netflix later clarified that it was a cloud game playable on TV, and the developer was only named alongside the new trailer.

The timing also puts the franchise in an interesting spot. ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ marked the end of the universe’s first phase, and the next film, ‘The Conjuring: First Communion,’ is currently set for release on September 10, 2027. ‘Unspoken’ offers a fresh case in the meantime, one centered on a haunted inn and its unhappy supernatural residents.

The release also fits Netflix’s growing push into cloud and TV gaming, which the company has been building through titles that turn the living room into a play space. A big horror brand with a built-in audience is a smart bet for October, when viewers are looking for scary experiences.

Whether the game can capture the tension of the films remains to be seen, but the trailer suggests it is taking the franchise’s atmosphere seriously. With a haunted pub, a grieving family and your phone as the only weapon, the premise promises plenty of nervous moments.
