Skydance Moves Fast: Warner Bros.’ Iconic Water Tower Updated the Same Day the Merger Closes
Few landmarks in Hollywood carry as much weight as the Warner Bros. water tower. Perched on the studio lot in Burbank, the tower has been a symbol of the company for decades, appearing in film logos, tourist photos and countless pieces of studio history.
It has also changed with the times. The tower has been repainted over the years, including a new blue shield in 2019 and a refresh for the studio’s centennial, and each version has reflected the company’s identity at the moment.
Now it has changed again, and faster than most expected. On Tuesday morning, shortly after Paramount officially closed its $111 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery to form Skydance, workers began updating the tower with a new line beneath the logo: “A Skydance Corporation.” A short video of the work, shared by DC Film News, quickly made the rounds online.

The addition is not entirely new. After David Ellison closed Skydance Media’s takeover of Paramount Global in August 2025, the water tower on the Paramount lot in Hollywood was updated to add the same wording. That repeat suggests the plan all along was to rename the merged company Skydance, the name of the production firm Ellison founded in 2006.
Photos from the lot show workers on a lift adding fresh paint to the tower while Ellison addressed employees nearby. Hollywood Reporter coverage of the day describes the new text as mirroring the language a few miles away at the Paramount lot, which makes the two landmarks a matching pair.

Inside the Steven J. Ross Theatre on the lot, Ellison spoke to staff on what was his first day as their boss. He acknowledged how difficult the road had been, saying, as The Hollywood Reporter reported, that “at times it was downright ugly.” He added that the effort now was to build a company that could rival the biggest players in the attention economy.
A memo from Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz struck a similar note. It acknowledged that job cuts will be coming as the operations of Paramount and Warner Bros. are integrated, while also stating that both studios will continue to operate under their own names. Audiences will still see the Paramount mountain and the Warner Bros. shield before the films and shows they love, according to the memo.
The wording on the water tower is carefully chosen. It keeps the Warner Bros. logo in place and adds the Skydance name beneath it, which fits Ellison’s stated plan to avoid overshadowing either studio. In other words, the shield stays, and the corporate parent simply gets a credit line.
The combined company is enormous. It brings together Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., HBO, CBS, CNN, MTV, Comedy Central and streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max, and its shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SKYD. Skydance has also confirmed plans to merge its 2 streaming services into one over time.
The deal was not universally welcomed. It followed a roughly yearlong fight that included a bidding war against Netflix, antitrust lawsuits and opposition from Hollywood figures such as Denis Villeneuve and J.J. Abrams, who warned of fewer jobs and less choice for audiences. A coalition called Block the Merger also argued that it would cost jobs and weaken independent journalism.
For fans, though, the water tower is a quieter symbol of how quickly everything has moved. The merger closed, the memo went out, and the paint was going up before the day was over. Whether the new name becomes as familiar as the shield beneath it will depend on what Skydance does next with the studios under its roof.
What do you think of the Warner Bros. water tower adding the Skydance name?
