Some magazine shoots are built on studio lighting and heavy styling, and others feel like a walk through someone’s afternoon. Margaret Qualley has managed to do both across a career that moves easily between film sets and fashion editorials. Her latest portrait falls firmly into the second camp.

Qualley trained as a ballerina before turning to acting, and she made her runway debut at 16, walking for Alberta Ferretti at New York Fashion Week. She is a longtime Chanel ambassador and has landed major covers, including Vanity Fair. That fashion pedigree means a new Qualley editorial tends to get noticed.

This week, a quiet image from her POP Magazine cover story began circulating again online.

The portrait places Qualley in a grassy clearing surrounded by tall green trees. She wears a turquoise scarf-style top, a long pendant necklace and a stack of beaded bracelets, with her long hair falling down her back. Her eyes are lowered and her hands are clasped in front of her, which gives the frame a quiet, unposed feel.

Natural light and soft colors make it read more like a snapshot than a polished studio editorial. It appeared as part of a carousel shared on Instagram, giving fans a closer look at the shoot beyond the covers.

Qualley fronts Issue 55 of POP, the magazine’s Autumn/Winter 2026 edition. The shoot was photographed by Talia Ryder and styled by Taylor McNeill. According to Fiction Horizon, Qualley appears on 3 different covers of the issue, which runs more than 700 pages, and several of her editions have already sold out with collectors.

The pairing with Ryder has a personal backstory, since the two have collaborated creatively before, including on the musical alter egos Lace Manhattan and Dixie Normus. That familiarity may help explain why the images feel so relaxed.

The outdoor theme runs through the whole cover story. On one cover, Qualley sits outside holding a small grey dog while wearing pieces from Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2026 collection. She layered the shimmering runway look over her own bright red hoodie, with her dark hair draped over one shoulder beneath the hood.

Mixing high fashion with everyday streetwear became one of the shoot’s signature touches. It suits Qualley, whose personal style has often balanced glamour with a laid-back, lived-in feel.

The attention arrives during a packed stretch for the actress. She stars in Ridley Scott’s ‘The Dog Stars,’ which opened on August 28 alongside Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce. Qualley plays Cima, a young medic, though the post-apocalyptic drama drew mixed reviews and has struggled at the box office, grossing around $39 million against a reported budget of $70 million to $110 million.

More projects are on the way. Qualley recently joined the cast of a Fred Astaire biopic led by Tom Holland, where she is set to play Adele Astaire, and Sabrina Carpenter and Talia Ryder are also attached. She was also spotted on set in July filming the horror remake ‘Possession.’

Part of the appeal is how little it feels like a typical cover shoot. Dappled sunlight, open fields and personal pieces mixed with designer looks give the story an earthy mood, and the woodland portrait may be one of its quietest frames. Fans have been quick to notice the contrast with the glossy, studio-lit editorials that usually dominate fashion magazines.

It also fits a pattern in Qualley’s public image. Between her work in daring, director-driven projects and her ambassador role with Chanel, she tends to turn up in places where fashion and film overlap. Even a single frame from a shoot that first circulated in August can find a fresh audience when it lands on the right timeline.
