The season finale of ‘Lioness‘ wrapped up its latest chapter with a quiet moment that had nothing to do with espionage. The final episode ended with an emotional tribute to late producer Rajeev Malhotra, whose behind the scenes work contributed to several major productions in Taylor Sheridan’s television universe. For viewers who stayed through the final seconds, the dedication card landed hard.

The Rajeev Malhotra ‘Lioness’ tribute has since sent fans searching for the name that appeared on screen. Here is what we know about the man behind the card, the career he built, and why his colleagues clearly thought so highly of him.

The ‘Lioness’ Finale Dedication Fans Noticed

The tribute came at the end of the season finale, which premiered on Sunday, September 20. The episode was titled ‘The Unravelling’ and aired on Paramount+. It followed an action packed hour that ended on a major cliffhanger and brought back a character last seen in the first season.

The card itself was short and personal. It thanked Malhotra for his tireless commitment and unwavering support, and closed with the line “You will be missed, my friend.” That last phrase gave the dedication the feel of a note from a colleague rather than a studio statement.

The timing made it more poignant. The episode saw Joe McNamara survive nearly a week in enemy captivity and finally return home, with plenty of unfinished business still waiting for her. After all that tension, the tribute gave viewers a moment to breathe and remember the people who keep a show like this running.

Rajeev Malhotra’s Career Before and Beyond ‘Lioness’

Malhotra was not a newcomer. His career stretched across more than three decades. His earliest credit dates back to 1995.

Long before he joined the Sheridan family of shows, he worked in some very different corners of television. He contributed to series such as ‘Iron Fist,’ ‘Daredevil,’ and ‘Cloak & Dagger.’ He also worked at Marvel Studios.

His connection to ‘Lioness’ began in the middle of the show’s run. He became part of the series as a producer in its second season in 2024. He went on to work on 15 episodes, covering a significant part of the series. That makes the finale dedication far more than a passing name in the credits.

A Taylor Sheridan Collaborator Behind the Scenes

Fans of Paramount’s growing slate of Sheridan shows will recognize many of the projects on his résumé. His credits include ‘Yellowstone,’ ‘1883,’ ‘1923,’ ‘Landman,’ ‘Lioness,’ and ‘The Madison.’ He worked across production and post production, progressing from associate producer on ‘Yellowstone’ to producer on several later Sheridan projects.

The descriptions of his role say a lot about how colleagues saw him. One report called him the quiet architect behind nearly all of Sheridan’s major works. He had also been managing production schedules for the creator.

The people who worked with him have been vocal about what he meant to them. A fundraiser created after his death described his remarkable dedication and commitment to the Sheridan, Paramount and 101 Studios universe of shows over the previous eight years. Abe Kurien, who served as a dailies coordinator on several of his projects, also shared his sorrow on social media.

What Happened Behind the Rajeev Malhotra Death News

The news of his passing reached the public gradually. Malhotra died on July 28 at Cedars-Sinai, according to a GoFundMe created to support his longtime partner, Catherine Jordan. The fundraiser states that he died peacefully in the hospital’s Cardiac ICU, surrounded by his father, brother, nephew, two cousins, Jordan and colleague Chad Galster.

Producer and cartoonist David Derks shared the news in an August 5 social media post, writing that he had been told by the production office at 101 Studios that Malhotra died following a heart attack. One detail has stuck with fans in particular. The producer apparently delayed going to the doctor so he could deliver his work on time.

Those who knew him have since made sure he is remembered as more than a job title. He is remembered by his partner of 15 years, Catherine Jordan, as well as his 94 year old father, his brother, his nephew and other loved ones. The fundraiser is intended to assist Jordan.

For anyone who wants to revisit the work he helped shape, all three seasons of ‘Lioness’ are currently available for streaming on Paramount+. Rewatching the episodes he worked on with his name in mind gives the show a new layer of meaning, so which scene in ‘Lioness’ do you think best reflects the kind of dedication Rajeev Malhotra brought to the series?
