‘Jumanji’ Star Kevin Hart’s Ugly Court Fight Takes a Shocking Turn as His Sex Tape Partner May Be Pulled Back Into the Spotlight
Kevin Hart has spent a lot of the past few years in courtrooms, and not for his stand-up. Disputes tied to his personal life and past scandals have followed the comedian well beyond the headlines of the moment. The latest twist suggests one of them is not finished with him yet.
At the center of the new development is Montia Sabbag, the woman who appeared with Hart in the 2017 Las Vegas hotel room video that blew up that year. She has not been part of Hart’s recent legal fights, but that may be about to change. Kevin Hart’s sex tape partner could soon be dragged into a separate court battle involving his former assistant.
According to TMZ, court documents show Miesha Shakes has asked for permission to question Sabbag as a witness. Shakes wants to ask about the 2017 controversy and the investigation that followed, and she has made clear she intends to take the stand herself.
Shakes is using the request as part of her defense in the breach of contract suit Hart brought against her. She points to the scandal as an example of harm Hart did to his own standing over the years. Neither Hart nor Sabbag has been reported to have responded to the request.
The dispute began in December 2023, when Hart sued Shakes and YouTuber LaTasha Kebe, known as Tasha K, in Los Angeles. Shakes worked for Hart’s companies from August 2017 to October 2020, and the lawsuit says she broke a non-disclosure agreement by giving a tell-all interview on Tasha K’s channel. In that interview she made claims about Hart’s private life, including alleged infidelity and a gambling problem.
Hart’s suit calls the claims false and defamatory. It also says someone affiliated with Kebe demanded a $250,000 ransom before the interview would be released, after which Hart called the police. He has sued Kebe for extortion and intentional interference with contractual relations, and Shakes for defamation and breach of contract. Hart’s filing also denies Shakes’ claim that he recorded a video of a sexual encounter and faced criminal charges over it.
Shakes has fought back by arguing the NDA is void. She says Hart failed to meet his own obligations under the agreement, including promised health insurance, and has also said she was dealing with mental health struggles and financial distress when she signed it. A judge found conflicting factual statements on the insurance claim, which allowed the breach of contract accusation to proceed. TMZ has also reported that Hart is seeking $50,000, which represents a penalty the two sides agreed in advance for any breach.
The 2017 episode began when Hart said publicly that someone was trying to extort him over a video that could embarrass him. He later apologized to his wife, Eniko, calling his behavior a poor error in judgment. Sabbag stepped forward at a press conference, denying she was an extortionist and saying she had nothing to do with the recordings.
In 2019, Sabbag filed a $60 million lawsuit against Hart, alleging he filmed her without her consent. Hart denied the allegations, and the case was ultimately dismissed. She had also accused him of using the scandal to boost his own profile, a claim he has denied.
Whether Sabbag ever takes the stand is still an open question. Shakes’ request is only that, and a judge would have to decide how much of the old scandal is actually relevant to a dispute over a confidentiality agreement. Legal observers often point out that courts tend to be careful about letting unrelated personal history take over a contract case.
Even so, the filing shows how far one NDA fight can reach. A case that began over an interview and an alleged breach could pull in a scandal many people thought was long behind the comedian. For Hart, who has built a family-friendly brand across film, comedy and business, that is not the kind of attention he wants.
Should Montia Sabbag be questioned in Kevin Hart’s legal battle?
