‘Crystal Lake’ New Images Turn Camp Into a Bloodbath as the ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Nears Its Premiere
Few horror franchises have lingered in the cultural imagination quite like ‘Friday the 13th.’ The hockey mask, the lakeside camp and the creeping dread all became shorthand for slasher cinema. Yet the brand has been quiet for years, with the last official project being the 2009 remake from Platinum Dunes.
That silence is about to end. A24 and Peacock have been building toward a prequel series that goes back to where the legend began, and the buildup has been methodical. A first teaser arrived in July, followed by a trailer, a premiere-episode screening at New York Comic Con and a steady trickle of photos.
Now a fresh batch of ‘Crystal Lake’ images has arrived ahead of the October 15 premiere. One image shows a woman with long dark hair sitting in a pink bathtub against blue tile, her eyes lifted and her knees drawn up, with bright red streaks smeared across the tub. Another frame, partly visible in the shared post, shows a figure in an orange patterned top standing in a doorway. The pictures were part of an Entertainment Weekly exclusive that also included an interview with star Linda Cardellini and creator Brad Caleb Kane.

The series takes place before the events of the original 1980 film and centers on Pamela Voorhees, played by Cardellini. A year after young Jason drowns in the lake, a disturbing chain of events begins, and townspeople start asking who Pam really is. When a couple of strangers dig into her past, it becomes clear that she has secrets she would rather keep buried.
According to the interview, Kane wanted to explore the bond between Pamela and Jason on a deep level and show how a boy who felt different and did not fit in with the other kids at camp became a monster. Pam is portrayed as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a child with special needs before a tragedy pushes her down a dark path. Callum Vinson plays young Jason.
Fans worried that a streaming-era prequel might go soft on carnage can relax. The show’s effects team describes its gore as “level 10,” and reporting around the interview says the production promises an obscene amount of blood. Cardellini said she was glad to see those intense images captured on film, but was equally relieved when the scenes were finished.
That blood-soaked bathtub image looks like a nod to what is coming. It also suggests the series will be as interested in atmosphere and unease as it is in shock value.

Beyond Cardellini and Vinson, the series regulars include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Catlett plays a new character named Levon Brooks, while Scoggins plays Dorf, the police officer from the original film. Younger versions of familiar faces also appear, including Crazy Ralph, Claudette and Barry, played by Nick Cordileone, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.
Kane, who also worked on ‘IT: Welcome to Derry,’ serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Original ‘Friday the 13th’ scribe Victor Miller is an executive producer as well, giving the project a direct link to the source material. Michael Lennox, Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran are directing episodes.
Cardellini arrives fresh off her first Emmy win, for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie. That adds extra weight to a role that has already generated plenty of buzz.
All eight hour-long episodes will drop at once on Thursday, October 15 as a Peacock Original. Peacock is also leaning into the spooky season, with the original ‘Friday the 13th’ trilogy available on the platform since October 1. That makes it easy to revisit the camp’s bloody history before returning to where it all began.
With a franchise this beloved, expectations are high. The latest images suggest that Kane and his team understand why audiences kept returning to Camp Crystal Lake for decades, and they are not shy about leaning into the horror.
