Jessica Biel (44) Goes Bold in a Plunging Black Gown at the ‘Matchbox’ London Premiere
Jessica Biel has spent the past few months proving she can command a red carpet as comfortably as a movie set. With a major film release on the horizon, the actress has been treating each stop on her press tour as a chance to try something new. Her latest appearance may be her sleekest yet.
Biel’s promotional run began months ago and has taken her from convention halls to premieres on two continents. Along the way, her fashion choices have been as talked about as the film itself. Each look has leaned dramatic, with plunging necklines becoming something of a signature.
Her stop in London continued that streak. Biel was photographed at the ‘Matchbox‘ London premiere on October 7, wearing a black Nensi Dojaka cut-out strapless gown with a deep center opening. The VIP screening took place at The Cinema in the Power Station on a wet evening in the city.

The gown is classic Dojaka: clean lines, a sharp neckline and a structured silhouette that stretches into a long, narrow skirt. In the photos shared online, Biel pairs it with a high ponytail that adds height and keeps the focus on the dress. The look is dark and streamlined from top to bottom.

The finishing touch is a pair of oversized gold Schiaparelli earrings. One fashion outlet described the pairing as minimalist with a maximalist twist, noting that the bold jewelry gave the simple gown exactly what it needed. It’s a smart styling choice that keeps the outfit from feeling too severe.
The London outfit came two days after the film’s New York premiere on October 5 at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater. There, Biel wore a Dolce & Gabbana blazer open over her bare torso, paired with a sheer black floor-length skirt and pointed black satin pumps. She finished the look with Cartier diamond earrings reportedly worth $135,000 and a dramatic waist-length hairstyle created by Adir Abergel.
Biel later changed into a gray Michael Kors blazer and trousers, followed by an ivory Self-Portrait silk top and trousers for a TV appearance. Seen together, her wardrobe reveals a deliberate approach: sharp tailoring, black as a base and plenty of skin. Her husband, Justin Timberlake, attended the New York event and was spotted arriving in a teal green blazer.

Biel wasn’t alone on the London carpet. Her co-star John Cena attended with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, and the pair were photographed sharing an affectionate moment. In New York, the couple matched in green, which fans clearly enjoyed.
That camaraderie fits the tone of the film itself. ‘Matchbox: The Movie’ follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are upended when their long-absent former leader returns to their small town. That leader, an undercover CIA agent named Sean, played by Cena, unwittingly drags them into a frantic international chase to save the world.
The Apple Original Film, from Skydance Media and Mattel Films, is directed by Sam Hargrave, the filmmaker behind ‘Extraction’, and written by David Coggeshall. Beyond Cena and Biel, the cast includes Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, Teyonah Parris, Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Danai Gurira and Golshifteh Farahani. It arrives on Apple TV on October 9.
It’s also the next film from Mattel after Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-winning ‘Barbie’ in 2023. The Matchbox brand itself dates back to 1953, when it originated with the die-cast company Lesney Products, before Mattel acquired it in 1997. With Hargrave at the helm, expectations point toward plenty of practical stunt work.
For Biel, the project carries extra weight. It’s her first film in nine years, following 2017’s ‘Shock and Awe’, and she spoke about her return at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where the film’s trailer debuted. She said she was inspired by the ensemble cast and the nostalgia of the toys, which she played with as a child.
She has also shared that the movie’s stunt work earned some admiration from her two sons. Those years away from features were not idle, however. She earned a Critics Choice nomination for her role in Prime Video’s ‘The Better Sister’, where she wore a black-and-gold Lanvin gown with a daring open back.
With the film just a day away from its streaming debut, the press tour is nearly complete. Based on how the past few days have gone, Biel seems determined to finish it with style. Fans will soon find out whether the movie’s action and humor live up to the glamorous build-up.
