Few Hollywood legal battles have lasted as long, or been as closely watched, as the one between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. What began as a custody and divorce dispute has stretched into a sprawling fight over a French wine estate. Each new ruling tends to bring a fresh round of headlines.

The latest chapter centers on a place that once symbolized the couple’s happiest years. Pitt and Jolie bought Château Miraval, a luxury estate with vineyards in the south of France, in 2008. They married there in 2014, and the property later became known for its wine, especially its rosé.

After their separation in 2016, ownership of the winery became one of the main reasons for their court fights. This week brought another turn. A judge rejected Pitt’s attempt to get access to Jolie’s private financial records, and her lawyer accused him of harassment and attempts to control her.

According to TMZ, the ruling was filed on Tuesday, October 6. The court denied Pitt’s demand for Jolie’s financial records from 2017 to 2019, which his side had sought as part of the Miraval case. Pitt’s team had argued that the records could shed light on her decision to sell her stake in the estate.

The decision isn’t necessarily final. The judge noted that Pitt can renew the request if Jolie’s testimony ends up putting her income from those years at issue. For now, though, the actress has won this particular round.

Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, responded sharply in comments to TMZ. He said the motion was one Pitt never should have brought and argued that the request crossed a line. He also described it as another attempt by the actor to control her and the narrative of the case.

Murphy added that Jolie has spent years trying to separate her personal and financial affairs from her ex-husband. He further claimed that Pitt tried to use her exit from Miraval as leverage to make her sign a non-disclosure agreement. Pitt has denied Jolie’s abuse allegations, and neither side has backed down.

The request was tied to a specific argument. Pitt’s side had claimed that Jolie put her overall financial situation at issue when she said she needed “financial independence” in order to sell her share of the winery. Jolie’s lawyers pushed back in an earlier filing, saying she specifically sought independence from Pitt and was not claiming general financial hardship.

They also argued that demanding records from before 2020 was an unnecessary intrusion into her privacy. According to that filing, Jolie refused to sign an NDA proposed by Pitt as a condition of his buying her share and chose to sell her stake to another party instead. In other words, the dispute is about severing financial ties, not about a lack of funds.

Jolie sold her half of the estate in October 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, a division of the Stoli Group. Pitt sued her in February 2022, saying the couple had an agreement that neither would sell their interest without the other’s consent. Jolie later countersued, accusing him of waging a vindictive war against her since she filed for divorce in 2016.

The case has produced many rulings since then. In June, a California court ordered Stoli Group representatives, including executive Alexey Oliynik, to give testimony, and an appeals court said Stoli owner Yuri Shefler could not escape being named in the suit. Pitt also won a discovery ruling in December 2025, when Judge Lia Martin ordered Jolie to turn over 22 disputed documents related to the sale.

Jolie’s side has consistently said such rulings do not affect the core of the case. A source close to the actress has said she chose Stoli because she believed the company could help expand the business for the benefit of their children. Pitt’s side, meanwhile, maintains that the sale violated an earlier understanding between the exes.

The calendar is already filling up. Court-ordered mediation is scheduled for October 28, and a trial date has been set for February 1, 2027. Between now and then, expect more motions, more filings and probably more rulings.

The latest decision is a small victory for Jolie but hardly the end of the story. Pitt can still return to the issue, and the larger questions about the sale remain unresolved. As the fight over the winery approaches a decade, it continues to show how deeply the former couple’s history remains tangled in business.

How do you view the judge rejecting Brad Pitt’s request for Angelina Jolie’s financial records?
