Netflix’s ‘Inside the Circle’ premiered on October 7 and streams in more than 190 countries. Created by Alejandro Lozano, the series is also known as ‘El círculo’ in the original Spanish, and it follows four friends whose lives are turned upside down after the mysterious death of an actress.

The ‘Inside the Circle’ ending recasts what looks like a political conspiracy as a far more personal betrayal, and it leaves several threads deliberately open. If you have just reached the final episode and need the pieces put together, here is a full breakdown of the killer, the cover up and the danger still waiting. Major spoilers follow from here.

Who Killed Pamela Dosantos in the Finale?

The story kicks off when Tomas, a journalist, casually uploads a video of the actress’s last known appearance, sent to him by his trusted informant Villanueva. What Tomas does not know is that Pamela was filmed entering the house of General Salazar, the national secretary of defense. That single detail turns a celebrity death into a national scandal.

The finale reveals that the person behind Pamela Dosantos’ murder is Jaime, who did it for both personal and professional reasons. While her murder starts the entire ordeal, the problem turns out to be much closer to home, since it points back to the four friends at the heart of the story.

One review notes that the series takes time to show that everything is not as simple as a murder in a jealous rage. Tomás, Amelia, Mario and Jaime have known each other since childhood, which is exactly why the reveal lands so hard.

Jaime’s Betrayal and the Clues That Exposed Him

Jaime always knew Pamela was a spy for the Northern Cartel, and her ties to his father and to General Salazar made her useful to his larger political gambles. In other words, she was never just a victim to him. She was a piece on a board he had been quietly arranging for years.

He had her tortured and killed in a manner reminiscent of cartel killings so that her death would become a national story. The leaked video then did the rest of the work by pointing the finger straight at Salazar.

Tomas starts to see through it once the timeline stops making sense. A pathologist confirms the informant could not have sent him a video only a week earlier, so the story he was told cannot hold. Things fall into place when he learns the men who kidnapped Viri and Jime were Jaime’s employees, who did not know the two girls were connected to their boss.

Along the way, Tomas pretending to be Villanueva made him relevant again and gave him the chance to stand up for what he believed in. It is a small redemption moment for a journalist who spent most of the season being manipulated.

Why General Salazar Shot Himself

Salazar’s ultimate goal was control and power, but the unexpected accusation against him left him in a tough spot. The man who seemed untouchable at the start of the series ends up cornered by a story he never wrote.

Jaime had expected the video of Pamela entering Salazar’s house to convince everyone that the general was the killer, but his plan did not work, even after he repeatedly asked Tomas not to dig too deep. Tomas simply refused to leave it alone. That stubbornness is what finally unravels the whole scheme.

The ending suggests that although the immediate threat is neutralised, a bigger threat looms over the friends. Salazar’s death closes one chapter, but it does not make anyone safe.

An Open Ending and What Could Come Next

Jaime receives a call from Lombardo, his Northern Cartel contact, who tells him that the cartel has decided not to accept his offer. The deal he worked so hard for did not pan out, which leaves his own security on the line as well. The man who orchestrated everything is suddenly as vulnerable as the people he betrayed.

Salazar’s friend also seems ready to get revenge against Tomas and Amelia, although they did not really do anything. That leaves the ending feeling unfinished on purpose. Several characters are still in danger and no one has a clear way out.

The series is based on the novel ‘Los corruptores’ by Mexican writer and journalist Jorge Zepeda Patterson, and Netflix has teased that the more closed a circle is, the darker the secrets it hides. That theme plays out perfectly in the final minutes. After learning what Jaime did to Pamela, do you think Tomas and Amelia can ever trust their oldest friend again, or does this betrayal end the circle for good?
