Think You Know ‘Twilight’? This Viral New Viewing Order Is Changing How Fans Watch the Saga
The ‘Twilight‘ saga has a way of coming back around every fall. More than 10 years after the franchise wrapped up, fans are still making their yearly pilgrimage to Forks, Washington, for a full marathon of the vampire romance based on Stephenie Meyer’s novels.
This year, the timing feels especially perfect. Netflix US added all 5 films to its library on October 1, just as spooky season kicks into gear. Until now, the movies have been watched in release order: ‘Twilight’, ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’, ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’, and then ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ and ‘Part 2’. Guides have long insisted that release order is the only correct way, since it matches the story order.
Now a new watch order spreading across TikTok promises to give the story a very different perspective. Instead of going chronologically, fans are starting with ‘New Moon’, followed by ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1’, then ‘Twilight’, then ‘Eclipse’, and finally ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’. One video laying out the sequence has racked up more than 7,700 likes, and many other creators have posted their own takes in recent weeks.
The logic behind it is surprisingly neat. The marathon opens with ‘New Moon’, which ends with a proposal. That leads straight into ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1’, with its wedding, pregnancy and Bella’s transformation into a vampire.
From there, the story jumps back in time. ‘Twilight’ becomes a look at Bella’s life when she was still human, almost as if the viewer is living through her memories. Because that film sets up the Victoria storyline, ‘Eclipse’ follows next to complete that arc, with more flashbacks along the way.
The marathon finishes in the present with ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’. Bella adjusts to life as a vampire, and the Cullens gather wolves and other vampires to protect Renesmee. By then, fans say, the story is finally back in real time.
The reordering plays on how the series is told. The ‘Twilight’ novels are primarily narrated from Bella’s point of view, so the idea of watching the movies as her recollections feels natural. It also helps that the final book, ‘Breaking Dawn’, was split into 2 films, which gives viewers a convenient place to tuck 2 earlier movies in between.
The setup also fits the way Victoria’s story unfolds. Her storyline starts after Edward kills her partner James in the first film, which is why ‘Twilight’ and ‘Eclipse’ pair so neatly together in the new order. Seen that way, the flashback structure turns the rewatch into a different kind of experience.
Not everyone is convinced, of course. Other creators have shared their own versions, including a plain release-order marathon and a personal ranking of their favorite films. Traditionalists can also point out that the original order was designed so that each film builds on the one before it.

The trend arrives at just the right moment. Peacock carried the saga until the end of September, and it then moved to Netflix on October 1. According to one streaming guide, a 2025 theatrical rerelease and the novels’ 20th anniversary have also fed fresh interest in the franchise.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson star as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, and their chemistry remains the heart of the saga. For longtime fans, trying a new order is a way to see familiar scenes in a new light. For newcomers, it might be the most surprising way to meet the Cullens.
