New York Comic Con has a way of turning TV panels into full-on pop culture events, and this year the Javits Center got a healthy dose of gothic glamour. For Alexandra Daddario, the convention is also something of a homecoming, since she was born in New York City.

The ‘Percy Jackson’ alum has spent years building her genre credentials, from the demigod daughter of Athena to leading AMC’s supernatural drama ‘Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches‘. That history made her Main Stage appearance feel less like a promo stop and more like a victory lap.

On the step-and-repeat, Daddario went with a shimmering pink sequined dress and an easy smile, letting the delicate texture of the outfit do the talking. It was a soft, sparkly counterpoint to the dark material she was there to promote.

She then gave fans a closer look through an Instagram post captioned “From morning until night” with the convention and her show. The carousel featured a voluminous, vintage-style curled updo, glossy lips and a plunging black neckline, plus a mirror shot in a black dress and pale pink pointed heels.

Fans in the comments leaned into the theme, with one joking that the witch had put a spell on them. Others simply called her gorgeous, which tells you how the glam-meets-gothic look landed.

The Friday afternoon panel brought together Daddario, Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, Betsy Brandt and Eliza Scanlen. Co-showrunners Esta Spalding and Tom Schnauz and executive producer Mark Johnson joined them on stage, and TV Guide’s Damian Holbrook moderated.

The headline was a new title and a date. The third season is now ‘Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven’, and it premieres Wednesday, December 30 on AMC+. The panel also debuted a first-look teaser trailer.

As the title suggests, Daddario’s Rowan Fielding is leaving New Orleans behind for Salem, Massachusetts. Spalding summed up the shift when she told the crowd, as AIPT reported, that the season is “bigger and bolder and very Salem-centric.”

Rowan arrives far more powerful than before, thanks to the power the demon Lasher gave her last season. To balance that, the writers added a new character named Jessica, played by Scanlen. She is a far less experienced witch who lets Rowan take a more commanding role.

The clip shown at the panel gave a taste of that dynamic. Rowan learns from Jessica about the dangers of being caught using magic in Salem, then breaks those rules almost immediately.

Daddario said she was thrilled that the season leans into more humor, calling it her kind of territory. She also tied Rowan’s new weariness with each magical mess to her own life, since she has since had a child and turned 40.

She warned that things only get worse for the Mayfair family. Don’t expect a peaceful reunion in Salem, then.

There is romance in the mix too. Daddario joked that Rowan is always looking for a new hot guy and has found one, and the season’s description hints at a love interest with a secret. The panel also revealed that a remixed track from Lestat’s rock-star era will feature in an episode, a nod to the wider Anne Rice Immortal Universe at AMC.

The new season adds several faces to the cast. Brandt, Michiel Huisman, Scanlen, James Frain and Omar Maskati are all new characters, while Hamlin, Chirisa and Alyssa Jirrels return. That is a big ensemble for a show moving to a new setting with a fresh mythology to build.

The teaser leaned into the stakes. In the new clip, Rowan laments that her whole life has been nothing but pain and death for those she loves, all to play her part in an ancient prophecy, before cautioning that nothing is set in stone.

Between the tonal shift toward humor, the move to Salem and a more powerful heroine, ‘Mayfair Witches’ looks set for its most ambitious chapter yet. Judging by her radiant Comic Con showing, Daddario is more than ready to lead the coven.
