F1 Fans Were Furious at Kim Kardashian (45) Over Martin Brundle, and Then Singapore Brought the Awkward Rematch

Few traditions in Formula 1 are as chaotic, or as beloved, as Martin Brundle’s pre-race grid walk. The veteran Sky Sports presenter weaves through crowds of drivers, team bosses and celebrities with microphone in hand, hoping for a quick chat. When it works, it’s television gold, and when it doesn’t, it goes viral.

Back in June, one of those moments went very viral. At the Monaco Grand Prix, Kim Kardashian attended as a guest of Ferrari to support her partner, Lewis Hamilton, alongside her sister Khloé. Brundle approached her, introduced himself and received little more than a blank stare and a small wave before her security team moved her along.

The reaction was swift. Some fans branded the reality star rude, while others argued she simply couldn’t hear him amid the noise. Either way, the clip became one of the most discussed moments of the Monaco weekend, and it left one big question hanging: what would happen if they met again?

On Sunday, October 11, Kardashian got her answer. She arrived at the Singapore Grand Prix to support Hamilton again, and Brundle approached her ahead of the race. This time, she greeted him with a smile and a joke about their earlier encounter.

She asked whether she hadn’t known the rules, and whether they had gotten off on the wrong foot, placing her hand on his arm as she spoke. Brundle laughed it off, told her it was great to have her at the grand prix, and carried on with the interview. The exchange was warm, brief and clearly meant to clear the air.

One report claimed her team had arranged the reunion in advance as a form of damage control. Whether or not that’s true, the moment landed well online. Fans who had criticized her in June were quick to note that she had clearly gotten the memo about grid walk etiquette.

Brundle has been walking the grid for about 25 years, and he has admitted that the popularity of the segment confuses him a little. Its reputation rests on a mix of charm and chaos, including run-ins with famous faces who would rather not talk. He was snubbed by Usher in Saudi Arabia, and Cara Delevingne declined an on-air chat at Silverstone in 2022.

The same Singapore weekend produced another viral scene when Brundle mistook singer Lewis Capaldi’s brother for Capaldi himself. The musician took it in stride, joking about being “bitched by Brundle,” and the presenter apologized online afterward. It’s the kind of moment that has turned Brundle into something of a cult icon for newer fans.

There’s an extra layer of irony here, because Hamilton famously doesn’t talk to anyone on the grid before a race. Brundle has said that Hamilton used to speak to him before he stopped, and that someone convinced the driver that he crashed every time they chatted. That left Kardashian, by comparison, as the Ferrari driver’s most visible ambassador on the grid.

Hamilton himself showed little concern over the Monaco fuss. He finished second that day and praised Kardashian’s support afterward. In Singapore, the race itself was won by George Russell, but plenty of the weekend’s conversation centered on the grid.

Moments like these highlight how much the sport has grown beyond its traditional audience. Celebrity guests now fill the grid at almost every race, and their interactions with the media can become as talked about as the racing. For Kardashian, who has a long history of media appearances, the Monaco snub looked out of character, which made the redemption arc all the more satisfying.

For Brundle, it was another entry in a long line of grid walk stories, this one with a happy ending. The veteran has handled each viral episode with good humor, and this one was no different. If the reunion proves anything, it’s that even the most awkward moments on the grid can be fixed with a smile.

Did Kim Kardashian redeem herself with Martin Brundle in Singapore?
