‘Invincible’ Gets Its Next Season Release Month as Ryan Ottley Confirms the Return
Few animated superhero series have kept up a pace like ‘Invincible.’ After a long wait between its early seasons, the Prime Video hit has settled into an annual rhythm, and fans have grown used to circling a date on the calendar each year. Now the next one has an answer, and it comes from one of the show’s own creators.
The series is based on the comic by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, and it follows Mark Grayson as he grows into his role as Earth’s protector while uncovering the truth about his father, Omni-Man. The fourth season ran from March 18 through its finale on April 22, 2026, ending on a tense truce between Mark and Thragg. It left viewers with plenty of questions about what comes next.
Now, co-creator Ryan Ottley has confirmed that the fifth season will arrive in March 2027. An exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
March fits the show’s pattern. Season three premiered in February 2025, and season four followed in March 2026, so a similar window was widely expected. Kirkman had also teased in a Collider Q&A that the team was in good shape, saying they were getting final animation back and that the season might land in April.
That makes the March confirmation a pleasant bit of good news for fans. It suggests production is running on schedule, and it keeps the annual streak alive. The creators have said that approach is the plan going forward.
Prime Video renewed the series for a fifth season on July 17, 2025, ahead of the fourth season’s debut, and announced at the time that voice recording was already complete. The team has since said that it has been working on the new season for some time. At one point, Kirkman noted that they were deep into production on season five while still promoting earlier seasons.
That head start matters. Animation on an eight-episode season takes years, which is why the show has to begin work so far in advance. The overlap is also why the gaps between seasons have shrunk.
The official synopsis hasn’t been released, but some details have been confirmed. Thragg and Dinosaurus will return, while Conquest, voiced by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is officially gone and will not be back. Lee Pace voices Thragg, and Matthew Rhys voices Dinosaurus.
The core cast, including Steven Yeun as Mark, Sandra Oh as Debbie and J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man, is expected to return. The season four ending, which left the Viltrumites hiding on Earth and several storylines hanging, sets up plenty to resolve. The series has also been blending original material with its adaptation of the comics, so surprises are likely.

The show’s future looks secure. A sixth season has also been announced, and Kirkman has said there could be anywhere from seven to nine seasons overall, with a hope of reaching 11 or more. He has also said the team won’t stop working on the show until everyone on the production is burnt out.
That long-term vision gives the series a sense of momentum few animated shows enjoy. It’s also a testament to the loyalty of the fanbase. Viewers have followed Mark’s story through shocking twists, and they keep coming back for more.
With March now confirmed, the next step will likely be a teaser or trailer from Prime Video. The streamer has been building toward the return with the same measured cadence it has used before. Expect more cast news and story details as the date approaches.
For now, the message is simple. The wait is shorter than usual, the production is well along and the creators are enthusiastic. After a finale that left so much unresolved, that’s exactly what fans wanted to hear.
