His characters often navigated the deadly, manipulative environments crafted within each season’s narrative framework. Over the course of his four-season tenure, the actor tackled varied storylines that highlighted distinct dynamics within the anthology. Here is an examination of every character portrayed by Cheyenne Jackson across the series, ordered from the least impactful to the most prominent.
Sidney Aaron James
In ‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’, Sidney Aaron James serves as the cynical television producer responsible for the hit docuseries ‘My Roanoke Nightmare’. Looking to capitalize on the show’s success, he orchestrates the sequel series ‘Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell’, bringing the real survivors and their dramatic reenactors back to the haunted farmhouse during the Blood Moon. Throughout pre-production, Sidney routinely dismisses alarming signs of paranormal danger and workplace fatalities in pursuit of sensational television. His pursuit of higher ratings ends abruptly when the actual Butcher slashes his throat outside of the mobile production studio. Sidney appears in three episodes of the season, functioning as the primary instigator behind the lethal television reunion before dying early in the event.
John Henry Moore
In ‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’, John Henry Moore is a powerful warlock and council member at the Hawthorne School for Exceptional Young Men. He emerges as a crucial voice of dissent within the school, voicing skepticism regarding Michael Langdon’s rapid rise and fitness to become the Alpha. After discovering Michael’s sinister nature, John Henry is ambushed and burned to death at a gas station by Miriam Mead to keep the secret safe. He is later resurrected by the rising Supreme, Mallory, allowing him to help bring his treacherous fellow council members to justice. Despite returning from the grave, John Henry meets a final demise when Michael and Mead launch a fatal assault on the warlock academy.
Dr. Rudy Vincent
In ‘American Horror Story: Cult’, Dr. Rudy Vincent works as a licensed psychiatrist treating Ally Mayfair-Richards for her debilitating phobias. A mid-season revelation exposes him as Vincent Anderson, the estranged older brother of cult leader Kai and Winter Anderson. To protect his professional career and avoid legal scrutiny, he previously helped Kai conceal the corpses of their deceased parents in a locked bedroom. When Rudy attempts to alert the police after realizing the deadly scale of Kai’s political crusade, Ally betrays him to preserve her own family. Consequently, Kai murders Rudy in his own medical office by slitting his throat, ending his efforts to stop the terror.
Will Drake
Introduced in ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’, Will Drake is a wealthy New York fashion designer who purchases the historic Hotel Cortez with intentions of renovating it. Accompanied by his young son Lachlan, he navigates the bizarre occupants of the establishment and enters a romantic relationship with the Countess. Their lavish wedding turns into a trap when the Countess locks him in a sealed corridor with the vampire Ramona Royale, resulting in his murder. Bound eternally to the hotel as a ghost, Will learns to navigate the afterlife with the assistance of Liz Taylor, eventually continuing his fashion empire from beyond the grave. As Cheyenne Jackson’s most prominent role in the franchise, Will Drake anchors major narrative arcs and remains a recurring presence across nine episodes.
