Zoë Kravitz has been hard to miss in New York lately, and the Zoë Kravitz ‘Die Alive‘ filming sightings are the latest proof that her next project is well underway. Paparazzi have been catching her between takes on the streets of the city, giving fans a first look at one of Apple’s most intriguing upcoming films.

The movie itself has a surprisingly competitive backstory. In May, ‘Die Alive’ became the subject of an old-school Hollywood bidding war, with studios and streamers including Warner Bros., Sony, Universal, Apple, Amazon and Netflix all chasing the spec script. They did so even though no stars were attached, which says a lot about how highly buyers think of writer-director Megan Park after ‘My Old Ass.’

Apple Original Films ultimately won the rights, and Kravitz joined as the lead in June, when Apple confirmed her involvement. Now new photos show her filming in the city, wearing an oversized dark brown coat over a gray top and a pale green satin midi skirt. She finished the look with brown heels, an iced coffee and her hair swept up into a messy updo, with fall foliage framing the shot.

Park is writing and directing the film, which is a romantic comedy. LuckyChap Entertainment, Margot Robbie’s production company, is producing with Apple Studios in association with FilmNation. Park previously worked with LuckyChap on ‘My Old Ass,’ which premiered at Sundance, earned WGA and DGA nominations and established her as a filmmaker to watch.

Park has described the film’s tone in terms of classic comedies. She told Deadline the team is comping it as ‘Stepmom’ meets ‘Big Daddy,’ which matches an earlier report that it has tones of those 2 movies. It’s also a pivot for Park, who has said her success in the young adult space was something of a happy accident.

Apple has not announced an official plot or release date, though one report suggests a 2027 release is possible. Apple has also presented the project without a title in some announcements, suggesting that ‘Die Alive’ could be a working title.

Kravitz won’t be carrying the film alone. Adèle Exarchopoulos has joined the cast, which Deadline reported marks her first American studio lead role. She is presumably playing the wife of Kravitz’s character, though that has not been confirmed.

Riley Keough has also been spotted on set. On October 12, Kravitz and Keough were photographed together between scenes in New York, with Kravitz in a white long-sleeve shirt, black pants, a purple scarf and Ugg slippers. Keough swapped her character’s on-screen footwear for Ugg boots, in a stylish matching moment that fashion outlets quickly noticed.

The project comes at a busy time for Kravitz, who made her directorial debut with the thriller ‘Blink Twice’ in 2024. She is also set to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in ‘How to Rob a Bank,’ which arrives in theaters on November 11. Before that, she had guest roles in ‘The Studio’ on Apple TV, so this film continues her relationship with the streamer.

It also marks a shift from some of her recent work. Rather than directing or starring in a thriller, she’s returning to lighter material with a rom-com from a director known for sensitive, character-driven stories. That could give audiences a different side of her screen persona.

For now, the photos from set are a reminder of how much anticipation surrounds the project. With an acclaimed director, a strong cast and a competitive bidding war behind it, ‘Die Alive’ has plenty of buzz. Fans will have to wait for official details, but the New York sightings suggest it’s moving along nicely.
