Marvel fans never stop pausing their screens, and ‘VisionQuest‘ has given them plenty of reasons to keep their fingers on the remote. The series is packed with hidden details, from lines of code to cryptic references that reward close viewing. The latest find may be the most tantalizing yet.

The show is the final chapter of the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along.’ It follows Paul Bettany’s White Vision as he searches for meaning after the events of the first series, while his mind plays host to the AI personalities of Tony Stark’s past. James Spader returns as Ultron, who has been uploaded into Vision’s Mind Space.

Now a sharp-eyed fan observation has turned into a full-blown Easter egg hunt. Episode 2 of ‘VisionQuest’ features a hidden “Countdown to Doom” label in Ultron’s room, a sly nod that appears to connect the series to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

The reference is tucked inside Ultron’s upstairs apartment in Vision’s Mind Space. In the scene, the AI Avengers examine information about Todd Stashwick’s Paladin on a wall of screens. A close-up reveals what looks like a DVD or CD case labeled “Countdown to Doom.”

It is a subtle moment that is easy to miss on a first watch, but it was quickly spotted by fans. Many viewers see it as a nod to the MCU’s march toward ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18. The film features Downey as Victor von Doom, the villain at the center of the next big Marvel event.

The label may have more than one meaning. Much of the footage on Ultron’s many screens is filled with war and human conflict, so “Countdown to Doom” could refer to doom for humanity itself because of its own actions. That reading fits Ultron’s long-standing view of the world.

Another theory is more playful. Marvel Studios has been running a countdown stream on YouTube for ‘Doomsday‘ since January, and Ultron’s mysterious recording could be a copy of that very stream. It would be a meta wink to fans who have been tracking the days.

Ultron’s loft has been described as a very urban space located many stories above the strange, nightmarish mansion that makes up the rest of Vision’s mind. He has been imprisoned there since his defeat, and he has access to the internet. According to the series’ background, he spends his time painting, which has given him a different perspective on humanity than Vision has.

That makes his space the perfect place for Easter eggs. Ultron is the character most likely to be watching the world burn, so a label about doom feels perfectly in character. Showrunner Terry Matalas has said that the dynamic between Vision and Ultron is central to the series.

The second episode, “Theseus,” is a big one for the show. It references the Ship of Theseus debate from the ‘WandaVision’ finale, and it ends with a tragic twist as J.A.R.V.I.S. is lost, almost two decades after the character debuted in ‘Iron Man.’ Ultron even proposes a noble sacrifice as the AIs prepare to glitch out.

Seen through that lens, the “Countdown to Doom” detail feels even more pointed. Ultron is shown as a cunning figure who may be steering events behind the scenes. Some fans are already wondering whether he is the secret big bad of the series.

For now, there is no official confirmation that the series leads directly into ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ Bettany is also not part of the official cast announcements for the film, and Marvel has kept many appearances under wraps. Some fans are hoping the finale will include a post-credits scene linking Ultron to Doctor Doom, but that remains speculation.

What is clear is that Marvel loves rewarding viewers who look closely. The remaining episodes will arrive in pairs, with episodes 3 and 4 on Oct. 20, episodes 5 and 6 on Oct. 27, episode 7 on Nov. 3 and the finale on Nov. 10. Fans will undoubtedly be pausing every scene in Ultron’s apartment from here on out.

Is Marvel teasing a connection to Avengers: Doomsday, or is it just a clever Easter egg?
