‘Euphoria’ Star Sydney Sweeney’s Poolside GQ Shoot Is Still Turning Heads

Sydney Sweeney’s GQ photoshoot is one of those image sets that refuse to leave the timeline. The ‘Euphoria’ star was already everywhere in late 2025, and she still found time to pose for a magazine cover.

Her calendar was packed with sporting events like the NASCAR Cup Championship and the 2025 World Series, plus red carpet appearances and a nonstop press tour for ‘Christy’, the biopic in which she plays pro boxer Christy Martin. Against that backdrop, a lazy afternoon by the pool looks like a very different world.

That is exactly where the photos place her. Photographed by Tyrell Hampton for GQ’s Men of the Year issue, Sweeney lounged on a pool chair and fully committed to the vacation mood. In the images now making the rounds again, she lies back with one arm raised over her head, tinted sunglasses on, a towel draped across the chair and a white wire side table beside her.

The styling is simple and deliberate. She wore a vintage white crewneck T-shirt with blue sleeves and a blue neckband, tucked to one side for a cropped effect, with minimalist black swim briefs with white piping from Miu Miu. It reads as retro and unfussy, closer to a summer afternoon than a studio set.

The wider shoot is set against a retro California backdrop of classic cars, brick patios and vintage lounge chairs. That warm, sun-faded look gives the whole series a cinematic, film-still quality.

The reaction was immediate. GQ and Sweeney both shared the images on Instagram to promote the cover story, and the comments filled up with admiration, with fans calling the pictures cute, hot, gorgeous and insanely good.

Sweeney was also in good company on the cover front. She was one of 7 cover stars for the Men of the Year issue, which marked its 30th anniversary. That makes the pool-day images part of a milestone package rather than a standalone spread.

The photos came with a lot of conversation attached. Sweeney sat down with GQ features director Katherine Stoeffel in September 2025, and the interview and a partial transcript went live on November 4, 2025. The profile covered her romantic life, politics, privacy and the physical transformation she underwent to play Christy Martin.

The American Eagle jeans campaign was the headline topic. Sweeney said she never felt tempted to issue a formal statement during the backlash, because she doesn’t see her job as telling people what to think. She also said it was surreal to have Donald Trump and JD Vance weigh in on the ads, though she largely tuned out the wider noise.

She had a practical reason for staying out of it. Sweeney was filming season 3 of ‘Euphoria’ when the campaign launched and said she was too busy to concern herself with the controversy.

As usual with Sweeney, the interview landed in a very online way. It sparked dozens of memes, and fans were divided over how she handled the questions. Some readers thought she should have addressed the ad more directly, while others cheered her for refusing to be pulled into a fight.

That split is part of why the shoot has lasted. The images are easy to enjoy on their own, but the cover story gave them a cultural context that kept the discussion going well past the initial release.

The GQ moment did not stop with the magazine. The Men of the Year party took place at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles on November 13, with guests encouraged to dress in 1990s Hollywood red carpet style. Sweeney, named Actress of the Year, wore a crushed velvet gown from Versace’s Fall 1995 collection.

She also doubled as a host, and the event came less than a week after ‘Christy’ was released on November 7. In the space of about 10 days she went from sunbathing on the page to commanding a red carpet.
