‘Scarpetta’ Star Jamie Lee Curtis (67) Goes for Gold at the Academy Museum Gala on a Night Honoring Her ‘Halloween’ Director
Some red carpet appearances come with extra meaning, and Jamie Lee Curtis’s Academy Museum Gala look is one of them. The actress made her film debut in John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween,’ the role that kicked off a first-of-its-kind action and horror franchise and made her a star. Decades later, she walked the carpet on a night when Carpenter himself was the one being celebrated.
The sixth annual Academy Museum Gala took place on October 17 in Los Angeles, with Charlize Theron receiving the Icon Award, Colman Domingo the Vantage Award and Carpenter the Luminary Award. The event, presented by Rolex, benefits the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and is often called the “Met Gala of the West.”
The timing also tied into the museum’s current programming. ‘The Horror Show,’ a new exhibition that opened September 26, is on view through July 25, 2027, alongside a retrospective series called ‘John Carpenter: Prince of Darkness.’

Curtis arrived in a long-sleeved, floor-length gown with a shimmering bronze and gold finish. Soft gathered detailing across the bodice gives the dress a sculpted focal point, and the fitted silhouette flows all the way to the floor.
In the carpet clip, she poses with both hands on her hips and a wide smile, her signature cropped silver hair catching the light. The understated sparkle is what makes the dress work, because it glows without overpowering her. It is also a refreshingly easy outfit, with no extra drama needed.

The look suited the occasion in more ways than one. Carpenter was also on the carpet, attending with his wife, Sandy King, and Curtis’s appearance on that night carried a full-circle feel for fans of the franchise.
Their partnership is one of the foundations of modern horror. Curtis went on to play Laurie Strode across multiple ‘Halloween’ sequels, and she has remained closely associated with the series as an actor and executive producer.

Curtis has never pretended that dressing up is effortless. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress said that getting ready for red carpet events has become a challenge and that she finds current trends increasingly over the top.
That candor is part of why her looks land so well. She has also said she wants her style to stay uncomplicated, and she often wears off-the-rack pieces, like a Carolina Herrera gown she wore to a Children’s Hospital Los Angeles gala that had been waiting in her closet for two years.

The glamour comes alongside a very busy few years. Curtis won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2023 for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once,’ and she has eight Golden Globe nominations with two wins. More recently, she reunited with Lindsay Lohan for ‘Freakier Friday,’ appeared in ‘The Last Showgirl’ and starred in ‘The Bear.’
In March, she attended the premiere of the thriller series ‘Scarpetta’ with co-star Nicole Kidman, wearing a figure-hugging black gown with a low-cut neckline. She plays Dorothy Farinelli, the older sister of the title character, Kay Scarpetta.
Curtis shared the carpet with a very star-heavy guest list. Taylor Swift, who performed, was joined by Kate Hudson, Rami Malek, Adrien Brody, Mikey Madison, Mark Hamill, Jennifer Hudson and Anna Kendrick, along with the likes of Eiza González, Chase Infiniti and Sabrina Carpenter.
Compared with last year’s more daring fashion moments, this year’s gala was described as relatively low-key. That made a glowing, no-fuss gown like Curtis’s stand out for its sheer confidence.
A big part of the appeal is how little the outfit tries to prove. The metallic fabric does the work, and the cut keeps things sleek, which lets her personality carry the rest. Her cropped silver hair and that wide laugh complete the picture.
On a night dedicated to the man who gave her career its biggest launchpad, the choice to keep things simple but shiny felt exactly right. It was glamorous without being heavy, and unmistakably Curtis.
