‘Dune: Part Three’ Drops New Teaser as Tickets Officially Go on Sale Worldwide
Few movies have built their rollout as carefully as Denis Villeneuve’s final ‘Dune‘ film. The studio has spent the better part of a year feeding fans a steady drip of footage, character reveals and format announcements, and each wave has been timed to maximize hype. The result is an event movie that has been selling out theaters before most people have seen more than a few minutes of it.
The film, which adapts Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune Messiah,’ is set 17 years after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two.’ Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides is now an emperor facing the consequences of a holy war, while Zendaya’s Chani, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson and Javier Bardem all return or join the story. A July trailer showed Paul facing plots against his reign, with Chani furious at his betrayal.
Now the studio is turning its attention to the box office. A new 24-second teaser has arrived with a simple message, ‘Now on Sale,’ as general pre-sales begin worldwide for all formats and showtimes ahead of the film’s December 18 theatrical release.

The brief clip is more of a ticket announcement than a trailer. It features a misty, ghostly structure seen through the mouth of a cave, with the words ‘Now on Sale’ stamped over the image in glowing gold lettering. It carries the film’s December 18 date and keeps the footage minimal, which is a familiar choice for a franchise that favors atmosphere over exposition.
The promo follows a pattern the studio has used before. Earlier teasers tied to ticket drops offered brief new looks at characters like Chani and Princess Irulan, and one featured the Spacing Guild Navigator in his floating tube. The point is to remind fans that seats are available and that the biggest screens will go quickly.
The rollout echoes the approach used for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ which staggered its ticketing across multiple waves. The first batch of IMAX 70mm tickets went on sale in April across 19 global locations and sold out in under 3 hours. A later round, timed with a new teaser, added premium large format screens and special Insider screenings on December 14, 15 and 17.
For comparison, ‘The Odyssey’ reportedly recorded $50 million in IMAX presales and a $52 million global IMAX opening weekend. That success showed studios how valuable it can be to sell a big-screen event early, and ‘Dune: Part Three’ is clearly following the same playbook.
The format is central to this film’s identity. Villeneuve shot much of the movie with IMAX film cameras, and the release is said to feature 71 minutes in IMAX’s expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio. It has also reportedly secured a three-week global IMAX exclusivity window, which gives it a major advantage on the premium screens that matter most.
That scarcity has already caused chaos. On the morning of October 20, thousands of fans joined virtual queues for IMAX 70mm tickets in the UK, where the format will play at only 3 venues: the BFI IMAX and The Ronson Theatre at the Science Museum in London, and Vue Manchester Printworks. Earlier IMAX 70mm seats have also appeared on resale sites at steep markups.
The ticket push comes with a competitor on the same day. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens on December 18 as well, creating a showdown fans have nicknamed ‘Dunesday.’ Marvel’s film passed $50 million in presales three months before release, and 70 percent of its advance tickets were for premium formats outside of IMAX.
Few analysts expect ‘Dune: Part Three’ to outgross its rival, but it doesn’t need to. With IMAX effectively to itself through the holidays and a director who has described the film as more action-packed and tense than its predecessors, it has a strong shot at carving out its own audience. The real test, as always, comes when the lights go down.
