‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Gets a Stunning New Look as Its Return to Middle-earth Nears
Few fantasy series have carried the weight of expectation that ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘ has. Amazon acquired the television rights from the Tolkien Estate in 2017 and committed to a multi-season production, and the first season became the most-watched of any Prime Video original series. The second season saw a dip in viewership but remained strong, and critics called it a significant improvement over the debut.
That second season ended with some of the franchise’s biggest events, including the forging of the Nine Rings and the reveal that the mysterious Stranger was Gandalf. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have said they have a five-season plan in mind, and Prime Video officially confirmed the third season in February 2025. Filming took place at Shepperton Studios in the UK, and fans have spent the months since waiting for the story to move forward.
Now the new season has a fresh visual identity. Prime Video has released a new poster for ‘The Rings of Power’ ahead of the third season’s premiere on November 11, showing Galadriel and Celeborn in a tender embrace in a sunlit forest.

The third season jumps ahead several years and takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. According to the cast, five years have passed, and Sauron has spent that time locked away in Barad-dûr, trying and failing to forge the One Ring. He is now determined to find a way to make it happen, and the showrunners have confirmed that his quest is the crux of the season.
The first trailer, revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July, showed Middle-earth in open war with Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel leading her forces against the Dark Lord. It also featured the forging of the Ring itself and a moment in which Sauron confronts the Balrog to understand how he can withstand the heat of a volcano.

The cast adds several notable names. Simon Pegg voices the Balrog, which will speak for the first time in the series, and Eddie Marsan plays Thrain, the older brother of King Durin. Andrew Richardson joins as Anarion, who arrives in Númenor, and Adam Young plays an orc named Marnukh who appears to team up with Galadriel and Arondir.
Returning cast includes Clark, Vickers, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Daniel Weyman as Gandalf, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Owain Arthur as Durin and Ismael Cruz Cordova as Arondir. Gandalf, known earlier as the Stranger, is now fully himself.

Unlike the first two seasons, which rolled out weekly, the new season takes a different approach. The first four episodes arrive on November 11 across more than 240 countries and territories, followed by two episodes on November 18 and the final two on November 25. That makes for a compact three-week run of eight episodes.
The schedule also arrives just before a crowded stretch for Prime Video, and it puts the series back at the center of the fantasy conversation. Season 4 cameras are reportedly expected to start rolling in early 2027, which suggests the five-season plan is still moving forward.
Between the darker imagery and the romantic poster, the campaign promises a season that mixes epic war with emotional reunions.
