Netflix altered international television when it introduced global audiences to contemporary French drama. Blending European literary tradition with modern heist spectacle, the streaming service discovered a worldwide sensation that rivaled traditional English-language productions. The thrilling exploits of Assane Diop quickly turned Parisian landmarks into high-stakes playgrounds for intrigue and deception.

Over three installments, the hit production anchored itself among Netflix’s most popular non-English programming. Millions of global households watched the charismatic protagonist outsmart authorities while executing elaborate operations against corrupt elites. When the third chapter concluded on lingering cliffhangers, viewers wondered how long the gentleman burglar would remain sidelined.

Now, the wait is ending as ‘Lupin: Part 4‘ prepares to make its global debut. Netflix has scheduled all eight episodes of the fourth chapter to drop simultaneously on Friday, October 23, 2026. This binge rollout ensures subscribers will receive the entire high-stakes mystery in a single drop.

Evolution Behind the Camera and Creative Direction

Behind the scenes, the series has undergone a significant creative transition. While co-creator George Kay originally shaped the drama, the production has evolved into a wider collaboration. Kay previously noted the intentional architecture of the series, explaining, “when you create the dynamics amongst the characters, you set these shows up so that they can have a long life,” as reported by Screen Rant.

Stepping into expanded executive roles, lead star Omar Sy now serves as co-showrunner alongside filmmaker Louis Leterrier. The production is spearheaded by Gaumont with Carrousel Studios, the joint venture that Variety confirmed was launched alongside producer Thomas Benski. Writing duties are handled by French screenwriters including Florent Meyer, Tigran Rosine, and Marie Roussin.

This structural evolution aims to elevate the cinematic scale of the French thriller to rival major international franchises. Discussing this ambitious expansion, Sy explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “How can we be bigger, add more production value, go further on the action, on the drama. Everything has to be bigger and bigger. We want to push our characters to something different and more complicated”.

The Plot: A Dangerous Copycat and a Daring Escape

Narratively, ‘Lupin: Part 4’ moves the timeline forward by introducing a four-year time jump after the previous finale. Assane remains behind bars, having quietly resolved to serve his sentence before leaving France to reunite with his family in Senegal. Yet, his peaceful plans vanish when a wave of impossible museum heists strikes across Paris.

A mysterious new criminal has begun operating under the moniker of Lupin, executing simultaneous robberies that confound authorities. Even more troubling for Assane, surveillance records and forensic evidence place him directly at the crime scenes despite his incarceration. Left with no alternative to clear his name, Assane must orchestrate a prison escape and unmask the impostor.

The storyline also addresses the lingering shadow of Assane’s eternal rival, Hubert Pellegrini. Having been incarcerated near Pellegrini at the end of the previous chapter, Assane navigates psychological warfare with his wealthy enemy. Resolving these unresolved family debts remains central as Assane confronts both an elusive imitator and longstanding grudges.

Returning Cast and New Faces in ‘Lupin: Part 4’

Omar Sy leads the ensemble once again, bringing his signature charm and sharp intellect back to Assane Diop. Veteran cast members are also returning to navigate the expanding web of deception, including Ludivine Sagnier as Assane’s former partner Claire. Antoine Gouy reprises his pivotal role as Assane’s loyal confidant and master craftsman Benjamin Férel.

On the side of the law, Soufiane Guerrab returns as Detective Youssef Guédira, who understands the literary methods of Arsène Lupin. Shirine Boutella returns as Lieutenant Sofia Belkacem to investigate the new Parisian crime wave. Meanwhile, Hervé Pierre and Clotilde Hesme reprise their roles as Hubert and Juliette Pellegrini, maintaining the conflict that shaped Assane’s life.

The narrative leap has also prompted significant casting adjustments among the younger characters. Rising French actor Théo Christine steps into the role of Assane and Claire’s son Raoul, taking over from original actor Etan Simon. Emerging talent Laïka Blanc-Francard also joins the ensemble in a key role tied directly to the Parisian museum heists.

Production Scale and What to Expect

Audiences can anticipate eight brand-new episodes directed by acclaimed filmmakers Edouard Salier, Everardo Gout, and Hugo Gélin. Blending Parisian elegance with high-tech thievery, the upcoming batch represents the most ambitious chapter yet. As Assane races to outwit a doppelgänger, viewers can expect relentless suspense from start to finish.
