Pedro Pascal Reveals a Reed Richards Line From ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and Fans Are Asking Who It’s Aimed At

Marvel is famously protective of what happens in its big crossovers, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is no exception. The studio has released trailers, character descriptions and elaborate installations, yet very little dialogue has made its way into the world. That makes even the smallest slip from a cast member feel like a major event.

Pedro Pascal, who plays Reed Richards, knows how closely fans are listening. Between his role as Mister Fantastic and his friendship with Robert Downey Jr., he has become one of the most watched members of the ensemble. Every interview is now treated as a possible source of clues.

The latest one comes from a podcast conversation about his other projects. Pascal revealed a line Reed says in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ when pressed for one, with the actor saying on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast that he was trying to avoid a line already in the trailer before settling on “It’s good to see you again.”

The line wasn’t a random leak. The interviewer had asked another cast member, David Harbour, for a line his character says completely out of context, and then put the same question to Pascal. Pascal’s answer sidestepped anything from the trailer, which suggests there’s at least one Reed line already in circulation.

The interview also covered other ground. Pascal discussed learning cello for ‘Behemoth!,’ teased his role in Todd Haynes’ upcoming ‘De Noche,’ and sent a message to his friend and awards-season rival Kieran Culkin. The ‘Doomsday’ line was a quick moment in a wide-ranging chat.

The line is deliberately vague, which is what makes it fun to dissect. Saying it’s good to see someone again implies a history. That could point to Doctor Doom, who is Reed’s archenemy in the comics, with a long and bitter feud that gives the greeting a chilling edge.

It could just as easily refer to another hero or an old friend from a different universe. The film follows heroes from 3 universes, and Reed’s family arrived from Earth-828 in an ending tag attached to ‘Thunderbolts*.’ With so many characters meeting for the first time, or the second, any number of reunions are possible.

Pascal has already tried to temper expectations about how big Reed’s part will be. When a director’s comments about Reed leading the Avengers went viral, he said they had been taken out of context, noting that the comics storyline in question is different from what the film is doing. A later report suggested Reed won’t be the one leading the new Avengers, and that Doctor Doom is the focus.

That doesn’t mean he’s a bystander. All 4 Fantastic Four actors are back, and the latest footage shows the team in an uneasy alliance with Wakandans and Namor against the looming threat of Doom. Reed’s intellect and his history with Doom make him a natural fit for the story’s central conflict.

Off screen, Pascal’s relationship with Downey is far warmer than anything the characters are likely to share. Downey has hosted what he calls ‘homework days’ at his home, where the cast works through scenes and character prep. He has also said that watching Pascal become a star reaffirms his faith in the industry.

Earlier, Pascal sparked fan speculation when he told co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach it was too bad he didn’t have any scenes with Downey. Some read it as a hint that The Thing and Doom don’t share the screen. Reed, on the other hand, clearly does have plenty to say to somebody.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. Robert Downey Jr. stars as Victor Von Doom, and the film leads straight into ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ scheduled for December 17, 2027. Marvel has promised an existential threat unlike anything the heroes have faced before.

With less than 2 months to go, expect more tidbits to emerge from cast interviews and promotional materials. For now, a simple line of dialogue has given fans plenty to chew on.
