‘Line of Fire’ Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: A Staged Assassination and Jack’s Chilling Warning

Few new network dramas have juggled as many secrets per episode as ‘Line of Fire‘. NBC’s series follows the Hollingsworths, a family of federal law enforcement professionals who find themselves targeted by a deadly conspiracy. Its latest hour was among the most crowded yet.

The show premiered on September 21 and was created by Joshua Safran, with Peter Krause leading the cast. It has also earned a vote of confidence from the network, which expanded the freshman season to a full 18 episodes.

That order made sense after ‘Cabin Pressure’, which aired on October 26 and scattered the family across 3 separate crises. It was written by Logan Slakter, and the official synopsis teased Mike hatching a plan to smoke out an assassination suspect while Jane raced against the clock to save a hijacked plane.

Jane’s assignment looked simple enough. She was transporting a hacker serving a 30-year sentence, and coordinated cyberattacks began targeting aircraft, causing planes to lose control. Her own flight lost all communications and instrument readings, leaving everyone on board essentially flying blind.

Another marshal aboard seemed like an ally, but he was exposed as the mastermind. He was a grieving father blaming an airline for his daughter’s death, and a total of 6 planes were hijacked to send a message that couldn’t be ignored.

The hacker, Elliot, turned out to be in cahoots with the marshal without grasping the full extent of his plan, and he ultimately helped Jane reverse the damage. To talk the man down, Jane connected with him through the pain of losing a child. She also opened up about losing Jack and the toll it took on her family.

‘Line of Fire’ Episode 7 Release Date, Time and Where to Watch

Meanwhile, Mike and his son Micah chased the gunman behind the attempt on former President Barnes. Their suspect, a close friend of Barnes and a big campaign donor, ended up dead from a gunshot wound just as they were closing in. It looked like a suicide, but Mike didn’t buy it.

The shooting turned out to be staged to help Barnes win re-election. Mike realized the call was coming from inside the house when he questioned his Secret Service colleague Daryl, who came clean and argued that Barnes would never have won again without the attempt.

That leaves Mike at a crossroads. As TV Insider framed it, he can burn everything down or live with the lie his country needs. A critic at TV Fanatic noted that the motivation behind the attack was quite surprising.

The final stretch belongs to Nia. She believed she was hot on the trail of Jack, also known as David Waldon, but he had deliberately left breadcrumbs, knowing she’d follow them. He lured her in, tied her to a chair and warned that he could hurt the people she loves, including her ailing mother.

What Jack wants is silence. He demanded that Nia tell no one he’s alive, least of all his family, and in return he’d let her go. He delivered a blow to the head before releasing her.

That raises a stack of questions. Why can’t the Hollingsworths know he’s alive, and is he protecting his family or hurting them? One reviewer suggested his sparing Nia fits a theory that he’s targeting compromised agents, while another recap floated that Nia could be connected to him by blood.

The episode also nudged a few personal threads forward. Russ reconnected with his old Marine buddy Brandon, played by Tyler Posey, for a mission, and ended with planning a double date. Russ appeared to harbor feelings for Brandon, though their history remains under wraps.

Clare asked out FBI agent Raul Amara after working the hijacking case with him. The ordeal also pulled Jane and Mike closer, with Jane realizing her ex-husband is the person she wanted beside her in what could have been her final moments.

With Mike holding explosive information and Jack’s threat hanging over Nia, the hour closed with enough loose threads to carry the season. A crowded plot has been the show’s recurring challenge, and one critic admitted it was easy to miss things. Episode 7 is due on November 2.
