Some documentaries break out of the art-house bubble and become full-blown pop culture moments. A24’s ‘You Can See Everything‘ has done exactly that, with its awkward, unsettling interview scenes spawning memes long before many people had seen the whole film. So it was only a matter of time before late night took a swing, and the ‘You Can See Everything’ spoof has now arrived with a very familiar face.

The film is directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, and it offers an unhinged look at the Theranos founder a month before she began an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors. The two filmmakers reportedly worked on it quietly for more than three years. It opened in U.S. theaters on October 16 and has been a hit with both critics and audiences.

On Wednesday, October 28, ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ opened with a cold open that recreated a famous exchange from the documentary. Fallon played Fielder, adopting his deadpan manner, while guest Jamie Lee Curtis took on the role of Elizabeth Holmes. The bit ran about 90 seconds.

Curtis wore a blonde wig and delivered an unnervingly intense stare, nailing the stiff, controlled tone that made the original scene so memorable. Fallon’s impression was also praised, with one outlet calling him a dead ringer for Fielder.

The premise comes from a conversation between Fielder and Holmes in the film that also served as the centerpiece of its much-memed teaser trailer. Fallon, as Fielder, asks Curtis’ Holmes whether she really wants to be on the show tonight, and she insists she loves talking to him. He then presses on whether she is simply there to promote her new NBC sitcom ‘Newlyweds’.

Curtis stays in character, saying she is engaging with him as a human being and asking why she would deceive him. When Fallon asks whether she is being real, she answers that she is always being real. Satisfied, he says he will see her out on the show.

The twist comes as soon as Fallon walks away. Curtis drops the act and mutters a mild insult about him once he is out of earshot, breaking the tension with a laugh. It is a neat reversal that plays on the film’s central question of who is being sincere.

The sketch also doubled as a plug. Curtis co-created ‘Newlyweds’, a sitcom that also stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, and she appears in a recurring guest role.

The timing is perfect for the film. ‘You Can See Everything’ has reportedly grossed more than $45 million domestically, and one outlet says it is on course to become not just one of A24’s biggest hits but one of the biggest documentaries in box office history. Its slow-burn expanding release has kept the buzz going, and the film continues to draw awards attention.

Fallon’s spoof marks late night’s most recent swing at the phenomenon, which shows how far the film’s reach extends. When a documentary becomes a comedy sketch topic, it has clearly entered the cultural conversation.

The original exchange is built on discomfort. Fielder’s style relies on awkward pauses and sincere questions that make the subject squirm, and Holmes’ controlled responses add another layer of strangeness. That makes it ideal parody material, since the tone is so distinctive that even small changes can be funny.

Curtis has a long history of fearless comedy, and she brings the right balance of precision and absurdity here. Pairing her with Fallon, who is known for impressions and commitment to a bit, gave the sketch extra polish.

The sketch was part of a busy night. Curtis appeared on the show along with ‘Stranger Things’ alum Jamie Campbell Bower, and the musical guest was Angèle. ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.

For viewers who missed it, the clip has already been shared widely online. Given how quickly the documentary’s scenes have become memes, it likely won’t be the last parody.
