Marvel has never been shy about plastering the world with Avengers artwork, but the ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ promo campaign has been unusually global. Region-specific posters have already surfaced for Korea, Italy and China, each adding its own twist to a marketing push built around Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

China has long been a key battleground for the franchise. When ‘Avengers: Endgame’ arrived in 2019, it earned roughly $575.8 million in China alone during its first 11 days of release. Disney is clearly hoping the next team-up can recapture some of that magic.

That is the backdrop for the latest sighting, a Chinese-language promo wrapped across the side of a bus. The artwork carries the Marvel Studios logo, the Chinese title, a December 16 date and a lineup of heroes that includes Thor and Black Panther. It is the kind of street-level push that suggests the film’s early China opening is no afterthought.

Disney has confirmed that the film will open in Chinese theaters on December 16, two days ahead of its December 18 release in the United States. The Chinese title translates to ‘Avengers 5’, and the local poster pairs the date with a line announcing a global early release. The UK has also moved up to December 16, while India gets the film on December 17 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Reports say the China window is helped by ‘Dune: Part Three’ being pushed to December 31 there, which clears premium screens for Marvel. China is also expected to be one of the few international markets to screen the film in IMAX.

The early date is showing up on other posters too. A South Korea and China poster put Doom above 2 colliding planets with Sentinels below, while Steve Rogers holds Mjolnir and Sam Wilson carries the shield.

Access to IMAX screens in China gives the film a meaningful advantage in one of the world’s biggest theater markets. IMAX’s chief executive has publicly called Infinity Vision just a branding move, which adds tension between the 2 sides. Tickets for premium Infinity Vision screenings went on sale on July 20 before opening to cinemas nationwide.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has reportedly passed $100 million in global presales more than 2 months before release. Presales had crossed $50 million more than 3 months out, with over 70% of those sales going to Infinity Vision screens.

Interest in China has been building for months. The film was named the most anticipated movie of the year on the review platform Douban as far back as December 2025, and on Maoyan, China’s largest ticketing app, 253,000 users had marked it as a must-see at 69 days before release. That was closing in on the 264,000 that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ reached at the same point.

A first projection for the China run has reportedly landed at $360 million total. That would be notably lower than the roughly $612 million Maoyan projected for ‘Avengers: Endgame’, but it would still be enormous.

Directed by the Russo brothers and written by Stephen McFeely, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ sees the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and X-Men team up against Downey’s Doctor Doom. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique also in the cast. Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart feature among the stars as well.

The movie was originally dated for May 1, 2026 before Disney moved it to December 18 to allow more time to finish production. Filming took place at Pinewood Studios in England, with location work in Bahrain, and Chris Evans is part of the returning cast. The Russos have called Downey’s Doom costume their favorite in the entire MCU.

Nearly every poster, trailer and promo piece so far has leaned on the villain’s imposing silhouette, and a poster from the Comic-Con presentation gave him a full-body portrait in a green cloak and metal armor. Looking further ahead, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on December 17, 2027. A global tour is also planned, with Evans, Hemsworth and Feige set to stop in Seoul on December 7.

Do you think 'Avengers: Doomsday' can match the box office success of 'Avengers: Endgame' in China?
