I Guess It Wasn’t Good Enough, Black Widow Is Being Rewritten

Hold on just a second. Black Widow is being rewritten? I thought the Black Widow movie was on track? It appears that the forthcoming Black Widow movie has hit a speed bump. As recent as one month ago a new writer was brought on board to assist in the writing process. Apparently, their coming on board was only the beginning. 

Ned Benson, the writer responsible for The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, has been brought into Marvel to rewrite the script for Black Widow. Reasons for the bringing in Benson aren’t completely known. However, rumors are surfacing that his inclusion is twofold. First, Marvel was impressed by his work on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. And second, he may have already begun working on a script before being brought aboard. 

Scarlet Johansson

Actor Scarlet Johansson has repeatedly expressed interest in doing a solo movie. She’s even went as far as to talk to Marvel Head Honcho Kevin Feige about the movie. And she isn’t alone. Fans of the MCU have been begging for a Black Widow movie since first seeing her in Iron Man 2. 

Of it, Johansson has been quoted as saying, “If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it… I think the fans were adamant about it, it could be done. It should be done, probably.”

Her solo movie makes perfect sense. Black Widow is one of the most adored characters in the MCU. Of all the characters Marvel could choose from to act as a sidekick in their movies, they often turn to Black Widow…Captain America The Winter Soldier immediately come to mind. 

With Captain Marvel mere weeks away, getting a Black Widow movie off the ground should be priority number one for Marvel. Thus far, they are missing out on an entire segment of the market. DC has already proven that the world wants female-led superhero movies. Even my wife, who only watches superhero movies to make me happy, continually asks me when Black Widow is coming.

Hopefully the answer is sooner than later.
