‘Insidious 6’ Set to Haunt New Ground With Fresh Faces and a New Location According to New Reports
The Insidious franchise is far from done scaring fans. Even though producer Jason Blum once said the series would take “a very long rest” after the fifth film, things clearly changed.
In May 2024, Sony Pictures confirmed a sixth Insidious movie was on the way. Now, a few new details have finally been revealed, and things are already looking pretty different.
The upcoming film, which still doesn’t have an official title, was first set to hit theaters on August 29, 2025. But plans shifted, and it’s now scheduled for release on August 21, 2026. According to production notes, filming is expected to start on September 15, 2025, in Melbourne, Australia.
That’s a major shift for the series. The earlier movies were mostly filmed in California, while The Red Door took place in New Jersey. This will be the first Insidious film shot in Australia. On top of that, none of the previous cast members have been confirmed to return. That could mean fans are in for a whole new story, separate from the Lambert family and their terrifying connection to The Further.
The film is being produced by some familiar names, Jason Blum, James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Ryan Turek, Oren Peli, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. All have played key roles in shaping the franchise since it began in 2010.
Casting is already underway for three supporting roles. All three characters are described as older BIPOC individuals, each with eerie and frightening traits. Their names are Lester, Patsy, and Edna. Each of them torments a neighbor, and the casting call is looking for actors with “unique, frightening appearances.” These details hint at a new kind of horror dynamic, possibly centered around a cursed neighborhood or an isolated community.
This sixth film isn’t the only Insidious-related project out there. In 2022, a spin-off titled Thread was announced. It later got the full title Thread: An Insidious Tale. Directed by Jeremy Slater and produced by James Wan, the movie will star Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani. It’s not clear how this story connects to the main series, but it shows that the world of Insidious is expanding.
There’s also the possibility of a crossover. Back in 2018, Jason Blum mentioned that a team-up between Insidious and Sinister was once in the works. At the time, he said, “We’re going to cross our worlds at some point… We’re going to try.” That crossover hasn’t happened yet, but fans haven’t forgotten, and Blum’s words suggest it’s still possible down the line.
For now, the next big step is the sixth Insidious film. With a new location, new characters, and a whole new direction, the franchise might be heading into its scariest chapter yet.
