Lucasfilm Reportedly Planning Sequel Trilogy Spinoff
There’s a lot going on with Star Wars movies right now, and while some projects are moving forward, others seem to be hitting pause. One film that’s definitely happening is The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau and set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
But that’s not all, there are also movies in the works from directors like Shawn Levy, Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Taika Waititi. Most of these are still in early stages, but fans are keeping an eye out for more news.
Now it seems that yet another project will be added to the roster. Daniel Richtman industry insider, recently revealed that Lucasfilm is reportedly developing a spinoff related to sequel trilogy (yeah, the one that includes The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker)
However, they haven’t decided, or at least haven’t revealed, which character the movie would focus on. It could be someone like Rey, Finn (unlikely), Poe, Kylo Ren (in flashbacks), or even a side character from those films. The idea is still early in development, so there aren’t many details yet.
Richtman posted this information on his Patreon account.
Now, the sequel trilogy isn’t the most popular trilogy in the world, but we already do have Rey’s movie in development, which will sort of continue it, but the status of that movie is confusing to say the least. According to the latest reports, Rey movie has been put on hold again. It’s not canceled, just delayed. The focus now is on Shawn Levy and James Mangold’s films, which are reportedly moving ahead first.
The movie is currently on hold following the departure Knight as the writer. Rey’s role in Simon Kinberg’s upcoming trilogy also remains unclear. While the character is being teased as having a major future in the franchise, the surrounding rumors aren’t exactly encouraging.
