DC Universe fans are just days away from the release of their first live-action movie, Superman. The film is written and directed by James Gunn, with David Corenswet playing Clark Kent, aka Superman. The cast also features Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.

The story follows Superman as he struggles to balance his alien origins with the human family he has grown up with.

Interestingly, this movie wasn’t always planned this way. Back in 2014, there were talks about a sequel to Man of Steel with Henry Cavill returning as Superman. But after the difficulties with Justice League in 2017, those plans were canceled by 2020. The DCEU as fans knew it ended, and a fresh start was needed.

The new Superman film takes inspiration from the comic All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, among other sources. Now that early reactions to the movie have come out, fans have a clearer idea of what to expect.

Fans online are really excited and sharing positive thoughts about the movie. Many say it might be one of the best superhero films ever made. Some even call it the best Superman movie of all time.

David Corenswet’s performance as Superman is getting a lot of praise. People say he was born to play Superman. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane is also being praised for her role. Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor is standing out too, with fans calling it one of the best versions of the character ever seen on screen.

Fans feel the movie is full of heart and hope. They say it brought back the fun and excitement they felt when reading comic books. Some even say it reminds them of animated shows like Justice League Unlimited or classic comics they love.

The action scenes, bright visuals, and emotional moments are also getting a lot of love. One fan said the music sent shivers down my spine and that the movie made them cry. Others say it made them believe in heroes again and reminded them why they enjoy superhero stories so much.

Overall, fans are leaving the theater happy and smiling, looking forward to more movies in James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

Superman had its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on July 7, 2025. It’s set to hit theaters worldwide on July 9, and in the U.S. and China on July 11. Fans will be able to see the movie in special formats like IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, ScreenX, and 4DX. This film is the first in the new DC Universe series, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Earlier this year, in January 2025, the family of Joe Shuster, who co-created Superman, filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). They argued that the rights to distribute the film in some countries, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Canada, had returned to them because of local copyright laws.

In March, WBD asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit. The case was dismissed in April because the court said it did not have the power to rule on international issues. The Shuster family filed the lawsuit again in New York in May, requesting to stop the movie’s release, but this request was denied in early June.
